We are a Crown Green Bowling Club and are always open to new members, whether you have had previous experience or are a complete beginner. Bowling is a great sport for all ages from 9 - 90 and a brilliant way to meet new friends, get out in the fresh air and keep fit. The greens are open for practice and indeed, the Premier League has already started bowling competitively.
Members are invited to pay their subs at their earliest convenience. Subs will be half price for this season only. The latest guidance from the BCGBA on how a return to bowls can start to happen can be viewed here. If you are a beginner we can provide free tuition and loan you some bowls and there is no pressure to join, just come along and try it.

Services
Initially there was one bowling green and six tennis courts. A large number attended the opening and they were entertained by the "exquisite band of volunteers "who played a number of musical selections. In those days Ladies were only allowed to play on the bowling green between 1.30pm and 6pm one day a week and were not allowed to bowl in the league.
Our thanks to Mike Beckett and all others involved in maintaining that site. For the shortened 2021 season the Whitchurch League has decided on a structure of 10 divisions with 8 teams per division. Division 10 has a spare place due to a team dropping out. Divisions 1 - 7 play on Tuesdays and 8 -10 on Thursdays.
There are also open sessions on Monday afternoons from 1:30pm (weather and bank holidays permitting) when beginners are most welcome to come and try their hand. To find us, turn into The Firs from Chester Road, then as the road bends to the right, turn left. It looks like a cul-de-sac but the club entrance is on the left immediately before the house straight in front of you.
This map has been added to our website to show you the approximate locations of bowling clubs in and around Whitchurch Shropshire. It will be useful if you are travelling to an away match and aren't sure where the club is or, if you are looking to join a club and Chester Road is too far for you to travel, you may be interested in joining one of these other clubs.

Chester Road is a really friendly club. We joined a few years ago with no knowledge of bowling at all, but there were plenty of people to show us how to play and get us involved and in teams. If you are on your own and hesitant about joining a club, please don't be as we are very inclusive and you will quickly settle in and find new friends.

Chester Road is a very friendly club, I started bowling here in 2013 as a complete beginner and I've never looked back! I've captained a team in the Whitchurch league for the past four years now. Roll on April and the beginning of the season! Come and join us I'll be very pleased to meet you 😊. Dot Charlesworth
