We are a small, friendly, committee run pre-school who have been on the site of St. Mary's Catholic First School since we were established in 1988. Haycorns is a non-denominational setting and our children move on to a number of local schools. We provide high quality care and education for children from the age of two and a half until they leave to join their first school.
Services
The pre-school is owned and managed by the The Haycorns Association which is a registered charity. Together they make up the management committee which consists of staff, parents and other individuals. The management committee is a voluntary body which comprises of the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and other members who make up sub-committee such as the fund raising committee.
Play helps young children to learn and develop through doing and talking, which research has shown to be the means by which young children learn to think. Our setting uses the practice guidance Early Years Foundation Stage to plan and provide a range of play activities which help children to make progress in each of the areas of learning and development.
In addition to the wide range of books that children can freely access we have a planned list of stories that we share with the children. We call these our Focus Books and we usually read the same book for a week at morning story time. Evidence suggests that repeated reading of the same text benefits children's understanding and language acquistion.
We are an out of school care club that works in conjunction with St Mary's Catholic First School and Haycorns Pre-School. Kids' Zone provides regular or one-off sessions for children from 4 years old. Children are collected from their classroom and escorted to the Kids' Zone building which is on the school site.
