Established in 1926 by the great-grandson of an English General and an Indian Mughal princess, it soon became a fashionable rendezvous hotspot amongst the rich and famous, who were drawn not only to its remarkable cuisine style but also to its Raj inspired opulent interiors. It shares a birthday with H.M the Queen.
Today it still exudes the same extraordinary glamour and rich essence of its legendary past. However, since acquiring Veeraswamy in 1997 we have made considerable makeovers to maintain such an ambience, with a fabulously sophisticated menu to match. We have restored Veeraswamy to its position as one the leading restaurants serving fine Indian food.

Food is just a small fraction of the dining experience at veeraswamy. the food was delicious, flavour in every bite but the portions were small for the price. my main problem with the restaurant was that i gave my coat to be put in the cloakroom but when i received it back there were marks all over the arm as if it had been dropped on a dirty floor. (photo below) highly disappointed as this ruined my whole experience. lastly we had a few waiters but one of the ones that came to clean our table made so much noise and dropped food off the plate without noticing. unprofessional for a place with so

Did not live up to the hype. The website mentions dressing etiquette for the restaurant yet there were people in hoodies and joggers. They do not allow children under 10 due to disturbing diners but the table next to us had a group of men who were being very loud and obnoxious like it was a bar or pub.
The wait staff - save for one server who was incredible - were absolutely abysmal. You could tell they were inexperienced and not trained nearly well enough to be dealing directly with customers. One of them spilled the contents of the plate onto the table intentionally while clearing plates.

With prices this high and publicity this good, you know you're going to have a great experience. Tucked away in a secluded corner near Regent Street, you kind of have to know what you're looking for to find the door leading up to the restaurant. Thankfully, there is almost always a doorman dressed in fancy clothing and a light-projected sign on the ground in front of the entrance. If you're still having trouble, look for the alleyway that leads to Gaucho and the Hagen coffee shop.
The restaurant itself is pretty darn gorgeous on the inside, and the secretive nature of its location

Great place! Very delicious food!
Dish that stands out in my opinion is patiala shahi raan - lamb shank wrapped in a thin flatbread and cooked for 6 hours accompanied with some curry on the side. Probably one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever tried, very succulent and soft, good combination of spices.
Also, really liked chicken momos, which was some kind of Indian dumplings.
Lamb chops were cooked perfectly, though I think proper knife for steaks/meat should be served for them, otherwise its really hard to cut them.
Raita was a bit too sweet in my opinion…
Service was good and very attentive

It was a wonderful dinning experience
Went for my wife’s birthday. All the staff where well mannered and attentive.
We had the tasting menu very reasonably priced for the standard of the resturant.
Started the meal with a
soup - tasting like it was cooked in a indian home
Had prawn and tikka for starters - amazing you can taste the favours engulfing the food.
Had 4 curries for mains
Lobster curry - the sauce was really nice but not being a lobster person that didn’t tickle my fancy
Chicken curry - one of the best full of flavour and tender soft chicken
Meat curry - it was different

The food was absolutely amazing and flavourful. The atmosphere was great and staff was quite helpful. The location is very convenient. Although the price was a little higher it was completely worth it. The was a range of food choices. The only problem was that the portions were quite big so no one at the table finished their meal completely. Suitable for older children and vegetarians.

An exquisite dining experience. The ambience- interior design, decor and music- is all around very pleasant and definitely high-end, so not suitable for young children. The food is delicious and beautifully presented and the service impeccable! Despite the high price, I would definitely recommend for a special occasion, as London has a wide range of amazing Indian to offer.

Time Travel at Veeraswamy.
Veeraswamy is the oldest and the only Michelin Star Indian restaurant in London, in operation since March of 1926. My Great Grand Father Rai Sahib Bhola Singh traveled to London in July of 1926 and patronized the restaurant, and made mention of it in his memoirs.
The restaurant still operates from the same building and even carries a soup, the recipe of which has been passed down the generations. Unchanged.
I had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant, on May 18th 2019, and relive what my Great Grand Father would have experienced. I had 'the' Mulligatawny

Magnificent meal in the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK!
Greeted downstairs by a doorman and then a hostess, after which we took an elevator up to the beautiful space where we were greeted again and escorted to our table.
As an appetizer, I had the mulligatawny soup -- I love this soup, and find it's different every time I have it. This one was probably the best I've ever had. My partner had (and loved) the crab cake (I don't eat seafood, so you'll have to take her word for it!).
After that her main course was the Lobster Malabar Curry -- a splurge, and worth it, she said

This was probably THE best Indian food that I've ever had. Came here with my brother and our parents around the end of December.
Location: it's conveniently located near the shopping areas which was beautiful lit over the holidays. The restaurant itself is accessed through one of the narrow streets where a doorman will greet you and another staff will check for your reservation and point you toward a small elevator that will take you up to the second floor where the actual restaurant is located. The ambience is beautiful with its dimly lit atmosphere and attentive staff.

This is some of the best Indian food I've ever had, even against food from my four trips to India. The five of us each got our own starter, which we ended up sharing, and then did family style for our main courses. My favorite was probably the duck vindaloo, though all the curries were fantastic. Others loved their veg platter.
Cocktails and wine we're also reasonable. Highly recommend.

Veeraswamy is London's longest standing restaurant (since 1926) and it's obvious why it's still around! My husband and I continue to rave about this restaurant and both agree that it was easily our favorite meal during our trip.
The restaurant is located upstairs in a building with a view of Regent Street. You'll check in with the hostess and take the elevator upstairs, where another host will show you to your table. My husband and I opted for the 3 course menu (appetizer, main course, and dessert). We started off with the mulligatawny soup to start, lamb kashmiri and chicken

Excellent Indian food in London for nearly a century. Perched above the bustling Regent Street shopping area, it is one restaurant you should be sure to make a reservation well in advance.
We had two amazing starters, two mains, and several sides. All of it was exceptional. Some of the best choices were the Chicken Makhani, Pista Ka Salan, broccoli Bezule, Raj kachori, and Murgh Hazrat.
All staff, including the manager, were helpful and pleasant. There are numerous very good Indian restaurants in London, but none older or as impressive as this one.

A colleague of.mine had recommended this place and so I decided to pay a visit. Reservations are essential here as I discovered that this restaurant had 1 Michelin star to it's name. I had dined at Quillon on a previous London trip so it was nice to have the chance to compare 2 London based Michelin started Indian restaurants.
It was fortunate that I had a reservation as the restaurant seats about 40 and there were only a few tables for 1-2. The restaurant was about 30% full when I arrived at 6.30 but it slowly filled up. I was seated promptly after I exited from the elevator on the first

There are few Indian restaurants with a Michelin star. That is too bad. But I know Veeraswamy deserves its.
I went for lunch and ordered a "mocktail," something more restaurants should be doing. The basil and apple juice mocktail was one of the most exquisite nectars that I have ever put to my lips.
I am so thankful for the kindness shown to me and the great food. I will never fail to go here when I return to London. This is THE place (the definite article if you will) for inspired Indian food in the heart of London.

I came here for dinner time with my parents and it was really good
The place itself it's really nice and cosy. I love the pictures on the wall about the glorious past of this place and their prestigious guests.
We ordered different starters to share : mango salad, chicken tikka and crab cake with some mix of naan ( chili, garlic and plain). It was good and really taste.
Then we ordered three different kind of lambs : lamb biryani, Kashmiri Rogan Josh and a royal Indian lamb recipe.
Everything was really delicious and spicy. The food was high quality and the quantity was really big !

Beautiful location, ambiance and great food to go with it. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Veeraswamy.
From the tandoori fiery chicken, to the Pani Puri, veggies, biryani and naan, this was high end indian in a traditional menu.
While we used to have a habit of Quilon in St James' I think from now on, it is Veeraswamy.

One can't travel to London without eating in at least one Indian restaurant as I believe they have some of the best Indian restaurants in the world. There are in fact so many that it made deciding where to eat a challenge, but after scouring reviews and asking local friends for their opinions, we landed on Veeraswamy.
You enter on the ground floor and take an elevator up to the restaurant which features authentic Indian decor. With so many amazing dishes to choose from we asked our friendly, attentive and helpful waiter for advice.
We started with the Raj Kachori which was artfully presented

With high prices come high expectations; unfortunately, Veeraswamy did not live up to them.
The hostess initially refused to seat us by the windows (even though the place was half empty) but that was quickly remedied by someone who overruled her. And the restaurant is beautiful and well-ventilated so we didn't come out smelling like curry.
After some hemming and hawing on our part, I decided on the pear and cinnamon martini and my friend got the guava and passion fruit martini. Neither of us particularly enjoyed our drinks.
