Records show that there has been a school for children of primary school age in Carnmoney going back over 200 years. This stone is now in the possession of our school and forms part of a display celebrating our long history. The original school was 'managed' by the local Presbyterian Church. The school building was situated at the corner of what are now the Carnvue Road and Carnmoney Road, where the Presbyterian Church car park is now.
It is our mission to promote, 'Learning for Life', working in partnership with the children, parents/carers and wider school community. We endeavour to assist our pupils in developing skills to become independent and self-sufficient adults with the ability to succeed and contribute responsibly in a global community.
The school occupies a site of approximately two acres on the edge of Carnmoney Village, which in turn is situated on the slopes of Carnmoney Hill. It was built to cater for 448 pupils and therefore has extensive facilities. Currently the school has 397 pupils in fourteen classes. Accommodation includes a main hall, which is used for assemblies, physical education, school performances, meetings and functions.
We continually strive to promote an ethos which reflects UNICEF's 'Rights' Respecting School Award' (RRSA). The award recognises schools that have put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of their planning, policies, practice and ethos. A rights' respecting school is a community where children's rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
