St Paul's Pre-school is a community-run pre-school with seven experienced members of staff. They are supported by part-time bank staff, volunteer helpers and a parent management committee. The Pre-school is located at St Paul's Church Hall on St Paul's Hill in the Fulflood area of Winchester. The hall provides excellent facilities for learning and play, in a safe, stimulating and secure environment.

The outdoor areas provide additional opportunities for enjoyment in all weathers. Children are welcomed from the age of two years and nine months up to school age. We provide all the support they need to develop their potential, at their own pace, in a happy and positive environment. St Paul's Pre-school is OFSTED registered, we are members of the Early Years Learning Alliance and are registered with Hampshire County Council.
Services
St Paul's Pre-school is a community-based charity that provides its children with a wonderful homely environment. Our highly-regarded staff encourage the children to progress at their own pace, using carefully planned activities, and both inside and outside play, to develop their social skills and confidence.
St Paul's Pre-school is managed by Silvia Brown (BA Primary Practice/EYTS), one of our seven Early Years Educators. Her superb team of staff includes Kate Al-Mukhtar (Deputy Supervisor), Kathryn Vincent-Brown (Deputy Supervisor), Katie Hillier, Cathy Blackburn, Leonie Plant and Anne Hughes.

We are proud that our teaching team provides a wealth of skills, experience and expertise, ranging from languages, outdoor learning, music, drama, speech, communication and language. The adult-to-child ratio is 1:4 for rising 3s and 1:8 for over 3s, with each child allocated their own key worker who supports them throughout their time at Pre-school.
Developing the children's confidence and social skills is key to our mission at St Paul's, as is making sure they enjoy their time at pre-school. The wide variety of indoor and outdoor play on offer enables them to acquire new talents and explore new interests.

We can change the set-up of the hall (illustrated above) to allow for a wide range of activities, although it usually features a home corner, a library area, craft tables, a dressing-up cupboard, musical instruments, a "Small World" area, a construction mat and a varied selection of games, puzzles and toys and indoor PE equipment. We have a table for maths and literacy, a computer and lots of time for singing, making music and cooking.
Please wear comfortable, washable, easy-to-change clothes to pre-school. Always bring a coat, wellies and waterproof trousers, and make sure that they are all named. A bag is required to hang on your peg, and this needs to contain slippers/crocs for indoor play, spare clothes and hat/gloves/suncream, depending on the weather.
I trained as a primary school teacher in Argentina, and my training and early practice years were spent looking into and developing a philosophy of teaching, considering why educate, why not just teach. It was a bit of a shock when I moved to the UK, over twenty years ago, and realised that I could not fit into the primary system here!
