Services
We are a small, well established setting specialising in caring for children from 2 to 5 years. Little Gems is privately owned and led by Gemma Akins since 1994. Our highly qualified managers run the day to day activities and take the lead delivering the EYFS at each setting; Miss Laura Snellgrove at Chandlers Ford and Mrs Gemma Akins at West End.
Our staff are carefully selected for their genuine natural warmth towards young children and their passion for delivering high quality Early Years education. All our staff have a commitment to further develop their knowledge and training is ongoing with some staff having specialist training in SEN and other areas.
We try to coincide some of our closure dates with St James School when we can and we try to give you as much notice as possible of any closure dates. Our standard opening times are 9.00am until 3.00pm, Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday and 9.00am until 12pm Friday. We are open term time only. We follow Hampshire term dates and also close for up to 5 days a year for staff training.
FRUBES - we politely request to not have these brought into pre-school. Children use their mouths to try and open them and they are usually all wet and damaged by the time we are asked to help! They also get squeezed and spill everywhere! Please do send little yoghurt/fromage frais pots and a spoon instead if possible.
Your child will need time to settle in and feel confident without you here. We will discuss the best way to settle your child with you. The manager and/or key person will try to get to know you both and their needs at the earliest opportunity in order to help plan the settling in process. You will be asked to complete a settling in form as well as some consent forms.

Love this preschool.
My first son started here three and a half years ago, my second nearly two years and my third son starts next month. I looked a five preschool before this one and although it’s a drive from my house it’s worth it.
Previous manager sold this establishment to me with her motherly love and kindness that was apparent and the great morale she had with staff, when she left I held my breath and I can honestly say I needn’t have worried, the new manager who happens to also be the owner is amazing and genuinely puts the children first. You can see the outcome of her hard work
