Rainbow Pre-school
We are an independent pre-school that originally opened in 1988 and now we provide childcare for up to 44 children per session, on the Wordsworth Primary School site in Shirley, Southampton. We offer an organised and well-planned indoor and outdoor environment that provides maximum opportunity for interactive learning through play, whatever the weather.

Our 'Spirit' is a thread that flows through everything we believe in and do. It is the foundation and building block of every child's learning and care that they experience whilst attending our pre-school. We have a team of 14 dedicated members of staff who set out to provide excellent standards of quality care, learning and play.
Services
We are based on a school site in the heart of Shirley and cater for families of a range of backgrounds and needs. Our staff have a wealth of experience and knowledge in early years and are passionate about supporting children and families.

We work closely with Wordsworth Primary School, joining in with celebrations, supporting transitions for those going to school and sharing ideas and knowledge in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).We are fortunate enough to have 2 lovely outside areas of which children have access to on a daily basis and we are also able to use the school field on occasions.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework for Early Years education in England. The framework sets the standards that all early year providers in England must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children's 'school readiness' and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundations for good future progress through school and life (Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, 2021).The EYFS specifies requirements for learning and development and for safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.
We have a wealth of knowledge in many areas of childhood development and family support. If you need any further support or advice, our team are always on hand to help and to signpost you to relevant organisations. We regularly share new and helpful resources with our parents/carers via newsletters, print outs and Tapestry.
We offer childcare and education for children from aged 2, in a safe, warm and welcoming environment. We accept funding for eligible 2 year old children, and for 3 and 4 year olds for both 15 and 30 hours on a term time only basis. Every three and four year old is eligible for 15 hours free funding per week over 38 weeks of the year starting the term after their third birthday.
Working in childcare is incredibly rewarding and requires patience and enthusiasm. As a practitioner you will play an important role in observing and supporting young children grow and develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. For most roles, it pays to get some experience and a full and relevant qualification.
