The Palace House Estate is a 5-acre site in the heart of Newmarket. It comprises three complementary attractions; National Horseracing Museum in the Trainer's House and King's Yard Galleries, Packard Galleries of British Sporting Art in Palace House, and a chance to meet former racehorses in the flagship home of Retraining of Racehorses.
The National Horseracing Museum tells the story of horse racing from its earliest origins to the world-wide phenomenon it is today. This is explored through works of art, silver, bronzes, and artifacts including silks worn by famous jockeys Lester Piggott and Frankie Dettori.
Using the latest interactive and audiovisual displays the museum also takes a different look at the sport, examining the physical attributes of the elite equine athlete and the importance of thoroughbred pedigree.Your visit will not be complete without riding a winner on our famous racehorse simulator!

Fab day out with my horse mad 12year old. Informative and fun with lots of interactive hands on activities. The highlight for us both though was chatting to Frank Conlon and going on the simulator. Such a lovely, friendly and interesting chap. Highly recommend even if you're not particularly horsey.

A great day spent at the Museum, staff were incredible. Began the day with the day in the life of tour and had a great discussion with the tour guides. Really enjoyed all parts of the museum but the guy… managing the horse simulator was amazing - told us all about his life as a jockey, having come to Newmarket at the age of 14 and was still there in his 80s and all the amazing horses he’d had the pleasure of dealing with or riding! Great day 🤩

A wonderful historical narrative is set out about racing, the horse and humans reliance on this beautiful animal. The science section and the gallery add to the learning which will appeal to those even without a direct connection with horses. Meeting horses in the yard is an added thrill - superbly looked after by Sue Molloy 😀
