The Centre for Computing History is much more than a museum. Based in Cambridge, it hosts hands-on exhibitions, educational workshops and a wide range of activities and events. Most importantly, it makes the history of computing relevant and fun for all ages!
Applications are invited for the post of Project Archivist on our Heritage Lottery funded project 'Swiss Rolls, Tea & the Electronic Office: A history of LEO, the world's first business computer'.Yes! We're going to re-open! We're Sooo Excited! We've all been home alone for too long and it's time to open our doors and invite you for an exciting and still mostly interactive retro computing and.

CCH was established as an educational charity to tell the story of the Information Age through exploring the historical, social and cultural impact of developments in personal computing. It maintains a long-term collection of objects to tell this story and exploits them through education and events programmes.
We understand that your time is valuable so offering to volunteer for us is something we really do appreciate. Whether you live locally or far away we have a number of activities that would really help move the museum forward. We are an inclusive organisation and really want to create opportunities for anyone, regardless of their capabilities.
Since opening at the end of 2013, over 5,000 children have visited the Centre. These children deserve a space which is engaging and instructive, where they can feel a sense of adventure, exploration and surprise! Please be assured that any amount you feel able to donate will make an immediate and significant impact.
In this great tutorial, you will learn how to write code in Python and create fun geometric patterns using the Python Turtle tool! Websites are a part of every day life now, but how are they made? With this guide, we will show you how you can get started with making your very own website. This guide will introduce you to everything Raspberry Pi-related.
Whatever their age, young people are welcome to visit the Centre and explore our computing past. A hands-on learning experience wrapped up in a historical context, offers young people an insight into the computing curriculum beyond classroom-based learning.
The Centre welcomes visits from Community and Foundation schools, Academies and Grammar Schools, Special schools and Independent schools, FE Colleges, Universities and all organisations supporting the education of young people.Ofsted recognises that museum visits and learning outside the classroom improve the quality and depth of students' learning and considers it essential to offering young people an outstanding broad and balanced curriculum.

Well worth an impromptu cross-country road trip! The centre is nicely laid out with interesting and well designed information panels. The range of equipment on display is mind-boggling and best of all so many are available to use. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. All in all a really good day out, thank you :)

What an amazing time we had here! The kids loved it but my husband and I (in our 40s) were over the moon to not only see games and consoles from our childhood but be able to play on them too! I didn't think I would see Lemmings or Granny's Garden again but they're all here. I would recommend coming here for a visit.

Mainly went to satisfy my inner nerd but actually my kids (5,7 and 9) all really enjoyed it too. The 80s classroom was a real hit, fantastic having the BBC micros out to practice coding on with the helpful… example code packs with them. Educational ideas too like panels to help you identify parts of a computer. And importantly - all the games consoles too! Brilliant how everything was switched on and able to be played with.

Brilliant museum which provides children and adults the opportunity to play computer games in their original form on original machines. Full of history it celebrates the achievements of women including black women and should be fun and informative for all children. Friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended

This place is amazing. If you have any interest in computing its an essential visit.
Saturday was my second visit to the museam and me and my brother drove 2 hours to make it.
The staff are wonderful and you can tell working there is a passion for them. They have had a tough year and they deserve to have people flooding through their door.

Last visited five years ago and visited again this weekend, it was great to see so many great additions to the museum and we had a great time looking at the exhibits and trying some of the retro games. The… 1980’s classroom was a real nostalgia trip, especially the BBC micros and Acorn machines. The display of Sinclair products in memory of Clive Sinclair was a very nice touch. Highly recommend this museum for visitors of all ages.

Fabulous inexpensive experience for all the family. I knew that I would enjoy the visit as CCH is perfect for nerds like me but my kids (9 year old girl and 12 year old boy) were even more impressed. We easily spent over 3 hours playing games, learning about the history of computing and coding. They didn't even need any encouragement from Dad! I'd recommend CCH to anyone, not just computing nerds. Lots of fun and games and a chance to step back in history.

A great day out enjoyed by myself and my teenage sons. Lots of nostalgia, some computers I'd never seen before, and arcade machines. The games kept the kids entertained, and the exhibits were interesting. I do agree with some reviewers that more could have been made of the development of computing throughout history, perhaps a guided tour or something like it explaining computers past and present and how they influenced the generations.

A great place to visit for the computer enthusiast and families alike. A great selection of computers, games consoles and even classic business computers. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable and there's lots of interactive exhibits, computers and consoles to play with. Everything is COVID safe with machines cleaned before each session and hand sanitiser machines are dotted around the exhibition.
Some rare prototypes such as the ZX Spectrum are also on display.
It was well worth the 5 hour drive from Devon. :-)
