Woodend Holiday Cottages
Holiday Cottages situated between the Duddon and Eskdale Valleys high on Birker Fell. Enjoy peace and tranquility in the Cumbrian Mountains and the most stunning views of Scafell. We are trialling Satellite Broadband which should give a better internet experience that our previous "copper line" connection.

We have registered for STARLINK (due to be available later in the year), which should further enhance our internet speed and reduce latency (delay). We can be flexible with booking dates and days and please remember, it is always cheaper to book DIRECT with the OWNER to avoid paying the commission and booking fees that agents add!
Services
We are very fortunate to work at home in this magnificent location with our collection of quirky individual cottages to look after. Having fond memories of our holidays, the places visited and in many cases the years that we took them, making memorable holidays for our guests is our main goal.

We spend most of our time at Woodend with our dog "Gracie" and we keep chickens, some of the year a few pigs, grow our own vegetables and enjoy cooking, home brewing and wine making.Other than that we enjoy live music and organise our regular local live music event, "Music in Ulpha". Check out the Music in Ulpha website and you might be able to match your stay to when we have a gig, many people do!
We cater for one to two persons in this light double aspect room with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and private bathroom. The accommodation has immediate views over the fields towards Scafell, Bow Fell and Crinkle Craggs. Guests can come and go at any time during the day and evening and are welcome to relax in the lounge.
If you intend to use Satnav, based on the postcode LA20 6DY, you will end up about 2 miles from Woodend at Crosbythwaite Farm. To prevent you from getting lost, especially for the last 2 miles, you may need the following additional directions. The mobile phone reception within about 5 miles of Woodend is very patchy so please don't assume that you can easily phone if you get lost.
From the car park, stone steps lead up to a gate and the front door. Entrance leads into the combined lounge / dining / kitchen area with views towards Scafell. Open plan wooden steps lead down to the bedroom, which has stone walls and oak beams. A door leads from the bedroom to the bathroom which has a traditional slipper bath, hand basin and WC.
Entrance is either through the garden room or through a gate and path to the front door where you enter into the combined lounge / dining / kitchen / bedroom area with exposed beams and stone walls. A door leads from the bedroom area to the bathroom which has a spacious shower, hand basin and WC.

Another door leads to the "sitooterie" (a Scots colloquial term meaning a place to sit oot!) / conservatory / garden room, where there is a bistro table and chairs and a second multifuel stove and the log store.Whilst not practical all the year round, it provides additional living space, weather permitting.

Even though I had three of my four days here being awashed with downpour rain, I still felt I lived rather than stayed or visited here. What a peaceful and interesting place!

Blissful week.
Spend a week of joy in the Bothy at Woodend Cottages. Perfect remote location to disconnect and relax. And although no signal the WIFI is perfect to keep that connection if needed.
Great local walks to Devoke water and Stanley Ghyl Waterfall which were spectacular. Great information re: places to visit, do and eat can be found on the cottageā€™s website. We visited some of them and were great!
The bothy itself is stunning, tastefully decorated, perfectly equipped with all the things you need, including a gorgeous bath. It also has a perfect little garden with flowers and ferns

When you arrive at a cottage and feel so at home that within 3 days you book to go back it's got to be good!

Had quite a few holidays here over the last few years and every single one special in their own right. Anyone who has the good fortune to spend time here in any of the lovely accommodation, landscape and area is in for a treat! Thanks Paul and Jella for providing such a very special and unique place.

My husband and I stayed here many years ago and I have never forgotten how beautiful the Bothy and surrounding area was. We had such an amazing time. It's a stunning place and if we were ever to visit again this is where it will be without a doubt!

This was my 1st Air B&B so was a little unsure what to expect however we were made to feel so welcome and the owners couldn't do enough for us.
If you like the Lake area then this is well worth a stay. Views are great. Lots of walks on the doorstep and middle of know where so very peaceful.
