Services
Nestling at the foot of the Southern Fells our comfortable Gold Award Lake District holiday cottages offer a high standard of self-catering accommodation and are open all year. The cottages can sleep from 2 to 6 people. All are centrally heated and two of the cottages have woodburning fires for those cosy winter evenings.
Stable Cottage was originally the stable for the estates heavy horses, used whilst they where being re-shod in the adjacent blacksmiths workshop. Stable Cottage has been awarded the VisitEngland Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service. Stable Cottage has an open plan lounge and kitchen/dining area.
This holiday cottage was once the Blacksmiths workshop, where until recently the forge remained. It is a sturdy building typical of the style of many in the Lake District, made of the local Burlington and Coniston slate. There are excellent panoramic views from the cottage of the Old Man of Coniston and the surrounding fells, Dow Crag, Walna Scar and Swirl How.
The Woodmans holiday cottage was once the heart of the estates forestry operations, and was used to store trees felled on the farm. This large cottage has now been sympathetically converted into comfortable holiday accommodation for up to six people. Woodmans Cottage has been awarded the VisitEngland Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service.
Nestling at the foot of the Southern Fells, our comfortable Gold Award Lake District Log Cabins offer great self-catering accommodation. We have two Log Cabins, the larger Larch Log Cabin is fully equipped and offers more space. The Cosy Glamping Cabin as its name suggests offers a simpler 'glamping' experience, but with a wonderful veranda to take in the views.

This is our second visit to Thornthwaite Farm (Woodman's Cottage) and had a fantastic stay. A top quality and well-equipped accommodation. Owners responded quickly to various queries we had during our stay. We loved this cottage two years ago and were not disappointed with our return. Great walks from the doorstep. The remoteness is exactly what we wanted after long days out with the kids. Will definitely be returning before too long.

Just got back from a Great holiday staying in little galey cottage on this farm. We stayed here for a whole week, this cottage has every thing you would need for a weeks stay. The out side area was great with the sheep field right behind our garden. My daughter loved the family of cats and kittens based in the actual farm yard. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. This is a very remote farm and cottages which was fine by us, It was very peaceful. The kids never got bored. I must admit we found the tiny lanes a bit daunting to start with as we are a family of townies but by the end of the week

Spent 3 nights at Thorthwaite Farm with my partner, and plan to stay again one day. The location is quite rural but very relaxing and perfect for getting away from all the busy towns and cities. Still found it good for accessing the main areas of the Lakes. The hosts are very friendly and made us feel welcome and showed us around before we settled in. The log cabin was perfect. We were provided with plenty of equipment The bed and sofa is so comfy! Overall very well furnished. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing getaway in the Lake District.

Lovely farm, quite and peaceful. Was there for a friend's wedding in the barn which was an awesome experience coupled great facilities provided for the event. Only down side is the road is for one car only, if you meet an on coming car one of you must be prepared to use the Reverse gear 🙂 .
It gives you the flavour of a 17th century road..which makes one appreciate how things have changed over the centuries.
