Satomi Kai Aikido
Instructors and members have come and gone over the years, but the club and its friendly atmosphere have stayed the same. With FREE trial sessions, newcomers are always welcome to come and watch us practice or, better still, come and join in at any time. You don't need any experience of martial arts to start, nor need to be physically fit.

That's what we're here to help with. Aikido involves the whole body working every muscle in your body. Aikido can burn 600-800 calories per session. Unlike the dreaded treadmill however, aikido will keep your brain occupied as well as your body. Martial Arts are great self confidence boosters. Competence leads to confidence, and our qualified coaches, and structured curriculum ensure your constant improvement.
Services
Satomi Kai currently run Aikido sessions on Sunday evenings at Stowmarket's Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre, from 7 - 8:30pm. Our teachers are DBS (CRB) checked. Our organisation's safeguarding policies can be found here. The Kai Shin Kai's safeguarding officer can be contacted directly here if you have an questions or concerns.
On a purely physical level it is an art involving throws and joint locks derived from Jujitsu and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu. Rather than punching or kicking opponents, Aikido focuses on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them. Aikido places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.
The current Satomi Kai Kyu-grade Syllabus, from 5th kyu (Yellow Belt), to 2nd Kyu (Blue belt) can be downloaded below. We as a club have a certain amount of autonomy in controlling the grading criteria this far. From 1st Kyu and above, grading structure is strictly controlled by the Kai Shin Kai. We are happy for people to buy uniforms and equipment from wherever they like.
