The JKAE is a steadily growing association of karate clubs formed in 2003 as the official England branch of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), "keepers of karate's highest tradition". The primary objective of the Association is to teach and foster the development of authentic JKA Karate. This will be achieved under the leadership of Sensei Ohta and by way of regular training courses, gradings and championships.
At the club, there will always be an instructor present that holds a DBS Enhanced Certificate. Lessons will not usually be taken by anyone who does not have this screening. We strive to ensure that all children and vulnerable persons can enjoy Karate in a safe environment, and parents can be confident of their child's safety.
This section explains a quick history of karate, an outline of the different styles of karate and a more detailed guide into the features and benefits offered by the style of karate taught at Colchester JKA. It is by no means an exhaustive guide to karate but should provide a useful introduction to those new to this fascinating martial art.
