The Dean Family, John and Ruth alongside daughters Katy, Rachael and son in law, Richard, run both the Farm and Farm shop together with a full time butcher and part time members of staff. The farm has been in Ruth's family for 4 generations, Katy and Rachael being the fourth generation. Plus, young grandchildren being the up and coming fifth generation.
Far Barsey had been a dairy farm for the past 80 years using the traditional farming methods and started delivering their own produced milk with horse and cart. Doorstep deliveries ceased in 1999 as the industry had started to decline with supermarkets taking over. The farm currently runs a Pedigree Limousin Herd 'The Barkisland Herd' alongside a predominately Limousin commercial herd which supplies the high quality beef for the shop.

Our Farm is a very important part of our business as it is where the process of quality starts. We are 4th generation farmers and when the farm was started by our ancestors it was a dairy farm which used to produce and retail milk on the doorstep mainly to the Halifax and Greetland areas.
Our ancestors used the traditional farming methods in the early days with horse drawn machinery but now we use more modern farming methods to ensure the best land for our cattle. The old milking parlour was converted into the farm shop we know and love today. In 2000 we replaced the dairy herd with Limousin cattle.
