The Wordsworth Hotel & Spa
Standing proudly in the heart of Grasmere village and cradled by two acres of glorious gardens, you'll find the historic Wordsworth Hotel. Once the Earl of Cadogan's shooting lodge, our grand country mansion offers the ideal retreat to soak up the picture-postcard views of the lakes and experience the sense of space, fresh mountain air and secluded beauty spots that inspired two centuries' worth of Romantic poets and painters.

Perfectly positioned in the UNESCO World Heritage Lake District, it's a place where you can reconnect with nature, ramble across the fells, watch the sunset or take an open water swim. And there are few better places to inspire literary or artistic creativity than the landscapes that once served as the muse for William Wordsworth and the Heaton Cooper brothers.
Services
For the best rooms at the best rates and with the best perks, it's always best to book direct with us. Make a break for the Lakes this autumn and discover some of Britain's best-loved scenery. With glistening tarns, lush green valleys, and the chocolate-box village of Grasmere right on the doorstep, it's all waiting for you.
Our 38 bedrooms and suites are equipped with everything you need for a restful and relaxing stay. Luxuriously decorated in a style befitting this grand country house, the rooms feature the finest Egyptian cotton bedlinen, flat screen televisions, direct-dial telephones, WIFI internet access and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.
Our beautiful hotel gardens, cradled by mountains all around, are the perfect natural setting for our indoor heated swimming pool. Round off a day's sight-seeing with a dip in the pool and soothe tired muscles in our sauna and jacuzzi. We're proud to help our local community too - meaning that our pool is closed for school swimming on Mondays during term time between 1pm and 2.15pm.
With so many shimmering lakes, lush green valleys, ancient woodlands and mighty fells to explore it's a perfect place to get out and experience the great outdoors, whatever the weather throws your way. Grasmere bustles with walkers - and for good reason. Take a look at our walking guide for some suggested routes.
Slumbering mountains, a shimmering lake, the peaceful, picture book beauty of Grasmere village - as stunning settings go, The Wordsworth is hard to beat. Once the holiday residence of the Earl of Cadogan, now an elegant 4-star hotel and spa, we've retained the romantic period character of the building and added all the comforts today's discerning guests expect.

How this hotel has positive reviews i honestly don’t understand. Either people stay in very poor conditions at home or the two rooms we were given were the worst coincidently?!
I don’t want to comment much but..
We hated our rooms somehow no oxygen! I wont even complain about the views!
Will we stay again? OH NO!!

December visit, beautiful decorations, roaring fire. Lovely staff, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Good with young children, activity sheet menu and crayons, staff were relaxed and communicated well with the children too. Peaceful setting with very good food. Great for a late lunch on a winters afternoon.

I would like to thank the staff at this hotel for being absolutely wonderful last night.
My family were driving back to our accommodation, in the dark, but were still about an hour away in torrential rain. Having already basically driven through a waterfall cascading onto the road just past Keswick, between Grasmere and Ambleside we found that the roads were completely blocked by flooding.
Finding ourselves stranded, and with our young children becoming increasingly upset and frightened, we tried to find a hotel for the night in Grasmere. After drawing blanks elsewhere, we ended up at the Wordsworth

Had our wedding here and stayed 3 nights here. Catalin, the manager, and all his staff could not have been more helpful and supportive. We had the best day with amazing afternoon tea reception. The weather, fortunately, was gorgeous, so the grounds here are a stunning backdrop for the pictures.
The room was exceptional and breakfast choice really good.
Overall, 5 stars from us and highly recommended.

Loved this hotel, the stay, the staff, service, everything was great! Food was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. My only reservation was that when my husband and I came back from dinner, we didn’t realise the hotel was shut and locked at 10.30pm. We had to ring the doorbell and waited for the night porter to open the door for us and let us in. Apart from that, a great stay.

I booked 5 for afternoon tea at the Wordsworth. It was really excellent. At £15 a head it's an experience I would recommend to all. Lovely sandwiches and the most beautiful cakes and scones. Excellent service and lots of space between other parties. I will go again.

Great hotel located right in the heart of Grasmere. Lovely gardens, pool and spa facilities make it a great place to unwind after long days out enjoying The Lakes. Dinner/breakfasts very good with plenty of choice. Only downside for me was limited ventilation in the rooms, so didn't sleep so well.
