Formed from the merger of Harleigh Vets, Pelyn Veterinary Group and Churchend Veterinary Centre, Kernow Farm and Equine is the new force in the provision of high quality veterinary care in Cornwall. We believe that the pooling of our resources allows us to combine the traditional values of a local veterinary practice with the wider range of services offered by the bigger specialist practices.
The merger has produced a ten vet strong practice, dedicated to farm and equine work with each vet bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this new enterprise. We believe that local knowledge is important - our vets have lived and worked in Cornwall for many years. We are able to offer a broad range of services both in the agricultural and equine sectors.

The main aim of NADIS is to highlight the importance of better animal health through veterinary health planning and to encourage dialogue between farmers/livestock handlers and their veterinary practitioner. NADIS provides a valuable learning resource and revision guide for everyone interested in animal health and welfare.
It is really important that the products we place on the market, whether they are milk or meat, are fit for human consumption by being free from disease and contamination. The types of vaccines used vary from farm to farm and whether the herd is predominantly dairy cow or suckler cattle. Routine veterinary treatments are also farm specific.
Castration is a very common procedure, but should take careful consideration. There are many different factors to think about and more potential problems than many realise. Most colts end up becoming geldings because it leaves them much easier to handle, particularly if they are kept with mares. The comment '.you can tell a gelding and ask a mare, but you have to discuss things with a stallion' is very true!
Kernow Farm and Equine offers a complete dental service alongside our regular veterinary work. Some of our vets have undertaken further training in this field. As vets, we are able to make a diagnosis and provide you with a full treatment plan for your horse's problem, which may or may not be tooth related.
Euthanasia is a difficult subject to consider, but our aim is to provide a humane and painless experience for your horse. Having any animal put to sleep is a distressing experience, so it is a good idea to plan ahead in order to avoid rushed decisions under difficult circumstances.
It may be that you are required to make a decision regarding euthanasia as a result of an emergency but with most horses it is usually an elective decision based on a combination of chronic weight loss and/or lameness, often associated with age.It is often difficult to say exactly when the right time is but as a guide, the primary concern should be your horse's quality of life.
