The Bakewell Veterinary Clinic has stood for generations at the heart of the local community. The practice developed alongside a farriery based next to an old coaching inn in Bakewell town centre. Travellers would stay overnight and any ailing horses could be tended to by the farrier or vet.
In those days the horse was the main focus of veterinary work but as agriculture developed the practice soon grew and became more involved with the strong farming community of the Peak District.In fact, the real "Siegfried Farnon" from the James Herriot novels started his career as a young vet in our practice many moons ago.

We have a purpose built small animal clinic with state of the art equipment and a team of friendly and compassionate staff. We have plenty of on site parking and we open late to accommodate the working lifestyle. Our qualified nurses provide a number of free nurse clinics for puppies and kittens, weight loss, diabetes, dental and old-age check ups*.
Our farm office in the main practice is the hub for our ambulatory farm veterinary service. Our team of experienced farm animal vets are on hand 24 hours a day for emergency calls or advice. We feel the most important part of being a farm practice is that we are local and can attend emergencies on farm as quickly as possible to improve the chances of a successful outcome.
Just a stone's throw away from the main practice is The Bakewell Equine Clinic, which is the only dedicated Equine Unit in the area. Our experienced equine vets provide a 24 hour ambulatory service or you can bring your horse in to the clinic to take advantage of our fully-kitted facility.
We provide AI services, digital x-ray, ultrasound scanning, shockwave therapy, dentistry, video gastroscopy/endoscopy and we have surgical facilities and stabling.Whether for routine work or a health problem, your horse couldn't be in better hands.

Shame to see reviews slating a particular member of staff over something that doesn’t effect how he cares for your pet!!
This is the best vets we have ever used and would never change. All staff are friendly and polite. The vets we see are normally Willem and Giles bramwell, both of which are excellent vets and always extremely helpful.
