IMPORTANT NEWS - Mike and Gill are retiring (properly this time!). We would like to thank all our guests over the last decade or so who have supported us and made this enterprise both a success and a pleasure. Our home, 'Tryfan', is a spacious modern chalet bungalow in a magnificent elevated location within the market town of Machynlleth.

Our unique position offers amazing wide-sweeping views over the River Dovey (Afon Dyfi) and the mountains of Southern Snowdonia in the north and also the rolling hills of the Plynlimon massif to the south. Despite our elevated position we are only minutes from the centre of town and all the amenities it offers.
Services
Each of our two guest rooms are decorated to add freshness and style to the existing charm and character. Both rooms are on the first floor and accessed from an attractive galleried landing over the large hallway. Being a chalet bungalow our first-floor rooms have partly sloping ceilings which lend a cosy 'cottage' character.
We are very proud of our spacious guests' dining room, which has the benefit of a 3m wide French window and terrace with fabulous views overlooking the Dovey Valley and even the occasional view of a Red Kite from the breakfast table! The room is so large that we have been able to incorporate a guests lounge area with a smart, comfortable sofa and chairs.
We have held our general tariff at 2019 rates but there are some minor alterations for 2020. Special rates and restrictions may apply during certain periods. We try to keep our rates as simple to understand as possible by charging per room (with 2 persons sharing). We offer lower rates for longer visits and special discounts too.
We offer a wide range of breakfast menus as well as the classic 'Full English Breakfast' with bacon and egg and all the trimmings. We also offer several alternative cooked breakfasts and a specialist vegetarian breakfast with vegan alternatives. We also have occasional 'specials' according to availability of ingredients or special requests.
The local area is alive with great things to do, especially for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Get away from the crowds. Lose yourself in the stunning scenery of the Snowdonia National Park or the wide Dovey Valley and its vast estuary. Look forward towards a greener future at The Centre for Alternative Technology.

Mike and Gill are wonderful hosts, and happy to give advice on the area. The place itself is clean, spacious and welcoming. Our room was very comfortable and even had a bookcase full of intersting works. Breakfast was locally sourced and tasted delicious. An excellent choice of breakfast was available, including a vegan cooked option. Mike went out of his way to accommodate my partner's appetite. Breakfast is only served from 8-9am to be aware if like me you like a bit of a lie in. The view from the breakfast room is breathtakingly beautiful. WiFi was easy to connect to in our room. Overall: Excellent
