As well as carrying out eye and contact lens examinations, we have an onsite manufacturing laboratory, allowing us to supply varifocals, bifocals and even high prescription single vision lenses within the same day.

Zag has been resident with us since 2006. He has a specialist interest in the development of children's vision and Diabetic Eye Disease (both his parents are diabetic!). He was accredited for Diabetic Eye Disease screening in 2007 and since then his further training has meant we are also part of a local Glaucoma and Cataract scheme, with strong links to local eye hospitals, namely RVI Newcastle & Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
We offer a very impressive range of spectacles. Whether you're a private patient or an NHS patient, we have frames to suit you and your budget. We offer a 2 year warranty on all designer frames. All children's eye tests are free of charge and all children's glasses are free of charge. We hold a stock of over 400 different styles for boys and girls and that the website just shows a small sample.
Our Principal Optometrist has a specialist interest in contact lenses and will be happy to guide you through the numerous lens options, offering lenses tailored to your needs and wishes. Most patients today opt for Daily Disposables (from 22 for 30 pairs) or Monthly replacement lenses (from 6 per month) but we also offer:.
Single vision lenses typically for people with long or short sight that only need glasses for things like driving, reading or using a computer. This lens type has one prescription that covers the whole lens. These lenses are included in the price of all of our frames. An Anti Reflective coating is added to lenses to reduce glare caused by light hitting the back of the lenses.
Bifocal lenses are divided into two parts to accommodate a combination of any two different prescriptions into one lens. One area of the lens will have one prescription (usually distance) and a segment in the lower half will have the other (usually near vision). Rather than having two pairs of single-vision glasses, bifocal lenses can be a more convenient solution as they combine all your vision needs into one pair of glasses.

Was having problems with my eyesight ( obviously lol) went to one opticians and they gave me eyetest and said i needed new glasses and eyedrops they had great eye drops at £13.00 .. I wasnt happy as received glasses and vision from one eye was still blury, i refused the glasses and didnt purchase any eyedrops.
Sooo i went to Specsure at Consett and was tested by Steven , he examined my eyes and Urgently referred me to GP , he sent email and gave me a letter to hand in to surgery. The very same day, i handed letter in and i received a call from Sunderland eye infirmary to go in the next morning

Yesterday was my first visit to specsure and it will be my forever opticians! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had a thorough eye test and all of my questions answered. Jackie was amazing and a great help when I was choosing my frames, her experience shines through. I really felt looked after and confident in her care. A very enjoyable visit and I love the glasses I have chosen. Thank you.

Fantastic Customer Service
8:20am - I accidentally sat on my glasses, causing lens to pop out and retaining wire to snap
9:01am - Call Specsure to see if/when they could repair .. they replied just pop them up whenever your ready
9:10am - Drop them off .. told to come back in 10-15mins
9:20am - Glasses repaired and I'm able to continue working
I honestly thought I would be without glasses for a few days .. but this kind of rapid repair and customer service has blown me away.
Did I mention no charge for this occasion ?
I'm not going anywhere else for my eye-care ..

I have been using this business for years now and wouldn't not go anywhere else. Other members of my family also use it.
Staff are amazing - so informative and extremely helpful. They are great at helping to choose new frames and the aftercare they provide is second-to-none.
Zag is a brilliant optician, I always feel at ease and comfortable whenever I have my appointments. My son saw another of the opticians on his last appointment, and he was also good.

I was absolutely delighted with the service, care and the information I was given today during my appointment time. My eye test with Steve - I hope I got the name right - was thorough and everything was explained in detail and I was encouraged to ask question, s while being given excellent advice on how I can help to contribute to my eye health. This is by far the best eye examination I have received - ever!
