Stephen has worked in Optics for over 20 years, and his experience in a number of different clinical settings has developed his expertise in various complex eye conditions. Having worked at both the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre and the RVI Newcastle Eye Centre, these experiences enabled Stephen to further his studies, having completed the Independent Therapeutic Prescribing qualification.

When Stephen took over the practice he had two aims; to offer patients the most advanced eye care available, but without the impersonal clinical approach he had experienced from a young age whilst visiting other Opticians. Our Optometrists may be highly trained and hospital experienced, but that doesn't mean they are cold and unapproachable!
Eye examinations do more than determine if you see well, they are a vital part of your overall health. At Summers Independent Optician we offer Expert Eyecare, and you'll receive the highest standard of eye examination. You won't be rushed: Most of our clients only require an eye examination once every 2 years, so we want to provide the most thorough eye examination available.
At Summers Opticians our specialist Optometrists are Independent Prescribers, a qualification held by only a small number of Optometrists within the UK, most of who work in Hospital Eye Departments. What this means to you, is that we can take you on your complete eye care journey, from clinical assessment and diagnosis, to clinical management and prescribing where necessary.
