We went for lunch in the middle of a day’s walking along the coast. First of all, the real ale selection is excellent. We sat in the new covered area in the garden. It has comfortable chairs and tables worth of a classy restaurant. The food is very good but quite expensive. My Goan fish curry cost £21, restaurant price, but was good value. My only whinge is that the Wi-fi does not reach the garden, in fact I couldn’t get a signal anywhere outside. Disappointing, but I would still recommend for the food, drink, service and ambience.

Lovely pub, amazing food and service. You need to book. We saw they did a seafood platter which needed to be pre ordered but the waitress kindly enquired in the kitchen to see if we could get one and they were able to accommodate us. You can't quite see on the picture but there was crab, crayfish, prawns, lobster, mussels, anchovies, different flavoured mayonnaise, bread and butter and Marie Rose sauce, crudités, I am probably missing some others... There's a play area for children and a lovely outside eating area too.

Perfect place to eat quality food in an perfect location.
Easy access to gorgeous walks , plus a fab quality camp site opposite.
The staff are really helpful and lovely to chat and answer any questions about the area.
The building maybe small, but the outside is big and comfortable.
Definitely put this place on your radar to stop and eat.
Highly recommend coffee and walnut cake , perfect mid walk booster.

Had a nice drink here. Barmaid didn't have a good knowledge of the real ales being sold. The one I tried was from North Wales and has travelled well!
The restaurant/garden was busy despite it being a mid week evening and unfortunately because I hadn't booked they could even fit in one extra person. A pity as the menu looked good and one of the locals told me how good the food is, although a bit pricey, but most places are on the Isle of Wight because of the tourists.
If I had eaten here and the food was as good as I am led to believe, I may have given the pub an extra star. I recommend you book

Well worth seeking out! - We were recommended to the Highdown Inn by the staff at Alum Bay Glass. Weren't we glad we followed their advice. We ordered half pints of prawns and they were the most tasty prawns we have ever had! Public an & staff were very attentive & friendly. Good atmosphere of a 'local's pub'. Separate restaurant & tea room. Outside seating. Dogs welcome. The other dishes we saw served looked delicious.
