Active Birth is a way to take charge of your birth experience, learn about the miraculous design of your body and how to trust and follow it on the day! I invite you to discover your deep instinctual intelligence, learn how best to help your baby to be born and to have a more comfortable, relaxed and easier birth yourself.

My teaching will build your body memory, increase your potential to give birth naturally or to combine what you learn with other options for a better outcome. I recommend you start with deeply relaxing weekly Pregnancy Yoga Classes and/or book for an Active Birth Workshop or a HypnoBirthing Course which you can attend with a partner or solo.
Services
Janet Balaskas is the founder of Active Birth. Her innovative ideas have inspired parents and birth professionals worldwide. Obstetricians and midwives have a high regard for her work, and many have adopted her methods. She began her work as a pioneering birth educator and author in the late 1970's and founded the Active Birth Movement in the 1980's and published the Active Birth Manifesto.
However, if you book for these classes, you will receive a pre-recording of a different class with Janet each week and you will automatically be charged half price when you book (5 as part of a package and 6 for a single class). The recording will remain live over the whole weekend. I have been in your online yoga classes since week 16 and absolutely loved them!
Usually, when a woman is undisturbed relaxed in a peaceful and private environment, birth progresses well, without complications. We also know that on occasions mum or baby may need a helping hand. So we offer a broad range of information about the physiology of labour and birth, insights into common medical interventions and how best to use them, practice with labour and birthing positions, breathing and self-hypnosis.
During the pandemic we discovered, how effective and beneficial to learn Hypnobirthing online, in your own home, with the guidance and experience of a gifted teacher. Janet is renowned for her unique way of teaching Hypnobirthing, applied to the wisdom of Active Birth and has a deep understanding of every aspect of birth.
Be inspired by Janet's unique experience and expertise as the founder and creator of Active Birth. This workshop will guide you on a practical journey through labour until the first hour or so after the birth of your baby. The focus will be on how you can work with your body, your breath, your baby and your natural instincts.

I'm so glad I attended Janet's yoga classes and Active Birth Workshop before my first birth. They gave me so much information, calm and confidence, and really contributed to me having a great, positive birth experience.
The yoga classes (via zoom) were very relaxing and introduced various positions for birth which I ended up using during labour with great results. I really looked forward to them each week.
The workshop was extremely helpful too and covered the physiology of birth and practical exercises for mother and the birth partner. They made me and my partner feel much more informed, confident

I couldn't recommend this hypnobirthing course enough. Janet was so generous with her knowledge and wisdom without being prescriptive about what birthing should be. The course empowered myself and my husband and we felt confident and calm approaching our daughters birth. Covid restrictions in hospital threw a few curve balls at us and it was through the hypnobirthing techniques that Janet had taught us that I was able to remain calm and feel at ease, especially when unexpected complications arose. Janet’s Yoga class and active birth course are wonderful. The Yoga keeps me feeling great throughout my pregnancy, if I miss a class I immediately feel it with random aches and pains. I thought my first positive active birth experience *could* have been a fluke but the Active Birth book by Janet Balaskas is my bible. I’ve just had my second more than positive active birth experience, following a c section, so a VBAC. It was another joyful experience thanks to Janet and her research and techniques.

I gave birth to my first (and only) child at home thanks to the confidence that attending the Birth Centre and Janet's classes gave me. Janet was careful not to push any opinions on us. In my experience - she gives you the facts and empowers you to understand that birth is a natural process and to trust that your body knows what to do. A bit like eating - you don't digest by thinking about it - it's uncontrollable - your body does it naturally. I wish more women understood this and felt less worried about giving birth - as worry causes our body to tighten - the opposite of what we need when trying

I highly recommend the pregnancy yoga classes with Janet and her course on Hypnobirthing for Active Birth. My husband and I found this knowledge and practice sessions essential to have a beautiful pool birth where we were calm and enjoy every part of it. We'll always cherish these memories as first-time parents and we couldn't have been able to do it without Janet, Jill and the amazing team at the Active Birth Centre. Janet's classes are fantastic, I did them throughout my pregnancy and really enjoyed turning up every week (albeit online) and the sense of comfort and continuity it provided me during my pregnancy (these things were really important to me during the pandemic). I've never really enjoyed yoga before - I always found it quite competitive and assumed I had to be really flexible to be good at it. As a pregnancy yoga teacher myself, I only started doing Janet's zoom pregnancy yoga classes towards the end of my pregnancy once I had finished my own teaching. I was looking for a new class which I could learn from but still switch off in and turn off my own "teaching" brain. I instantly fell in love with Janet's classes on zoom and was quickly attending twice a week and learning more and more each week. The classes became my sanctuary each week - closing my bedroom door and having 90 mins to myself to unwind and relax in my own space. Pure bliss! Janet taught me brilliant new breathing techniques
