Sivananda is traditional Hatha yoga and includes yoga postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, diet, positive thinking & meditation. Stimulating the body and relaxing between postures with a long final relaxation gives the nervous system the rest and repair we so desperately need. The physical body gains strength and flexibility and working with the breath develops concentration calming the mind and emotions.
The Gentle Hatha class is suitable for all levels and movements are done slowly with awareness to how the body is feeling and responding to the postures. It may also contain some more challenging options but will always start with a basic position so you can choose what feels right for your body according to your individual needs.

Services
North London Yoga Centre offers beginners yoga, intermediate and advanced classes with a variety of different traditions including Sivananda Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Hatha Flow and Gentle Classes. We have classes for kids, teenagers, seniors, pregnancy and can do one-to-one sessions. We also run workshops and have weekly Meditation classes, Deep Relaxation and Tibetan Singing Bowls (sound healing).
Please arrive only 5 minutes before the class and use the hand sanitiser provided as you come in. The doors will be open before and after the class please wait outside until the previous class leaves and the teacher asks you to come in. Wear loose comfortable clothing and try not to eat a large meal for 1.5hrs before the class.

Some classes are more gentle, suitable for those with injuries and others can be very dynamic, so be sure to find the right class for you. We also have kids yoga, teen yoga, pregnancy yoga, deep relaxation classes, meditation and Tibetan Bowls (sound healing).

Suitable for those who have never done yoga before or those seeking a gentle relaxing class. There will be demonstration of the postures and individual guidance and help.

I have been attending Carmen's classes for several years. The postures are carefully explained and then modelled. The background to Sivananda Yoga is often referred to and this helps with understanding its holistic nature. We are encouraged during the class to work at our own pace where effort and relaxation are seen as equally important. I always sleep well after my yoga class and the the suppleness that the discipline brings helps me in all areas of my life. Carmen is a dedicated teacher who brings fun to the class and is devoted to the benefits of Yoga practice......

I started going to the centre about three years ago doing one class a week and over lockdown I found myself doing two a week.
Carmen and Pembe are fantastic teachers with lots of patience and humour giving us a good all round experience with options when you're struggling. It makes you want to do your best and I even changed my normal work day so I could do Pembe's class on Thursday evening. That's real dedication!
I've tried Carol and Maria who were also great teachers and think this is a really nice club to be apart of.

For the last 3 years I have regularly attending classes at North London Yoga Centre. I attend Maria ‘s Hatha Yoga class on Saturday . Maria is very encouraging enabling you to develop your poses and always very supportive to offer an alternative. The class enables you to achieve the maximum benefit from yoga.

NLYC is the best studio I have ever been to. I have been attending online classes in the last months and have been incredibly happy and grateful I could continue practising yoga with the amazing teachers. The centre offers a great mix of easier and stronger classes as well as interesting workshops and topic oriented classes. Top notch!

I have been going to Ellen’s Yoga lessons for many years now and I have her to thank for my love of yoga. I have been to a few different yoga classes but Ellen’s is my favourite class by far. Her style of teaching has helped me progress by teaching me patience through practice and how to concentrate on posture and what my body is feeling through the class. There is always a sense of calmness during the class and this allows me to switch off. Thank you so much!

A fantastic yoga centre with a great range of classes depending on ability. Carmen is a wonderful teacher who, even through Zoom in these times, has been such a calming and grounding presence during practice. Zoom links are always sent out on time, and she includes really useful information about different yoga poses that we will be trying in class.
Overall super happy with this centre and can't wait for some in-person classes soon! <3

I absolutely love Ellen's classes and have been attending them for many years now. Ellen is a great teacher, her teaching technique works for all levels and abilities - she explains each movement and position and gives you the option to push yourself or take it easy. Ellen's classes are a pleasure to do and you always feel good for days after attending.

I have been attending yoga classes at NYLC for years (in person before lockdown and online the last year). Pembe and all the teachers are incredibly supportive to help you relax and progress in your practice.
Carmen has a wonderful and positive energy. She always takes the time to understand how people are, cater positions based on people's previous yoga experience and takes into account any injuries people may have so you feel well looked after.
Yuli is also fantastic. If you ever want a gentle class where you can relax and unwind, Yuli has the best soothing voice and is great at guiding you
