I have over 22+ years of experience and have trained with numerous teachers from the both India and the west, you can find out more about my classes and experience within the site. I teach a breath lead approach to Yoga posture work which is the integration of mind, body and breath in a step by step way which can be adapted to all levels.

All classes are now back on a face to face basis except for my Saturday class which is on Zoom until October. I came to Yoga in 1999 via tanscendental meditation with local teacher Chris Greathead and shortly after found an Iyengar Yoga class with Mary Putman which was a great foundation. I found the combination of regular posture work and meditation really keeps the mind and body in balance.
Services
Classes are structured to allow students to develop at their own pace from beginners through to experienced. Gift vouchers are also available, if you have any questions please contact. These sessions last up to two hours and are tailored to the individual(s) needs please contact for further information and price.
Home practice will be given each month in preparation for the following month, please contact to reserve your place. Come and celebrate a full day of Yoga practice with local teachers from around the region, and a wonderful chance to reconnect with fellow practitioners. David will be teaching 3 sessions during the day based around Asana, foundations of Pranayama and developing stillness towards meditative awareness.
Thai massage is performed on the floor fully clothed which allows for ease of specific movements to be carried out. Using a combination of pressure with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows & feet and additional stretching movements these have a very releasing affect on the clients body in the same way as Yoga postures.

I absolutely love David's classes. He is extremely experienced with an amazing wealth of knowledge of the whole practice of yoga. I love that the class I attend always incorporates pranayama and meditation as well as the physical practice. I've really noticed my all aspects of my practice improve. I have been to India a couple of times to study yoga and David's class is the closest thing I've found to that style of yoga. After attending David’s classes for 4 years, I find David to be a good, experienced and knowledgeable yoga teacher.

My 1st introduction to Yoga was via one of David Atkinson’s classes and straight away he put me at easy among other more experienced class members. David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels and is able to included great breathing and meditation techniques into his classes. Several years later I have continued to attend his classes and also a couple of his Yoga retreats held in Same y Ling monastery in Scotland. I would thoroughly recommend his retreats too as there is more time to experience a wide range of meditation and yoga practice in a beautiful relaxing environment

David is one of the most authentic and friendly people I’ve ever met. David’s dedication to his own yoga practice, his depth of knowledge and understanding, is reflected in his diligent and generous approach to his teaching.
David offers an array of interesting courses and extended practices which are affordable and excellent value. In addition, he hosts guest teachers from outside of the region.

I've been to several different yoga classes over the years and David's is the best by far. I've now been going for about 3 years and plan on staying. It is both relaxing and challenging - David introduces variations to postures so you can choose whatever level you are comfortable with. Every class is different, with an emphasis on different areas or techniques - it's never repetitive or boring. Everything is explained and demonstrated, so you can't get lost, and the pace is just right. David is extremely knowledgeable, and you feel that you are in very safe hands. David is a fantastic Hatha Yoga instructor. Each lesson is extremely well-organized and never repetitive, incorporating a wide range of postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. For the more challenging postures, David always suggests a number of variations that are easier for less experienced students to follow, thereby ensuring that everyone benefits fully from the practice. I cannot recommend David’s classes highly enough!

I've been going to David's classes for many years now and would highly recommend them to anyone. I've been to various classes within the city, but David's is my first choice.
I really like the variety that David brings to his classes, every one is different and provides a nice mixture of breath work and postures. He caters for all abilities and is great at helping you to develop your practice.
David has a gentle and warm personality with a good sense of humour and that atmosphere is reflected in his classes.

I have been taking classes with David for over three years. In my view, David is a brilliant teacher. He is vastly experienced and hugely knowledgeable. As you would expect, he is also calm and patient! His classes are designed to challenge you but at the same time everyone is encouraged to go at his or her own pace. David brings some top teachers to Newcastle and runs some great weekend courses of his own. If you want to experience the real deal, then I can’t recommend David’s classes enough.

I have been going to David’s classes for about four years, starting on a six week beginner course. The classes are attended by all ages, shapes and sizes and everyone is friendly. Variations on postures are always shown and gentle suggestions are made when limbs don’t quite go where they should. David’s knowledge is vast but subtly imparted and I always come away from the class, glad that I went, feeling relaxed and stretched. He is, I feel, a gentle soul with a lovely laugh and I would recommend his classes to anyone.
