Services
Archipelago Bakery is a small, independent and organic bakery in the New Town of Edinburgh. Caroline grew up in Edinburgh and after studying at University worked in the Museum and Gallery world before entering world of finance. With her passion for cooking and baking she decided to set up her own business.
We make a wide range of freshly baked goods every day at Archipelago. We have pastries, scones (fruit, bran, gluten-free, cheese etc), our toast with our homemade low-sugar jams, banana and wholemeal spelt bread, breakfast granola bars etc every day for breakfast. For lunch we always have a vegan and gluten free soup.
We are passionate about our bread at Archipelago! Bakeries using organic flour are few and far between and this was one of the main reasons for setting up the bakery back in 2014. Bread had somehow attained a bad reputation and was seen as an evil food or bad carbohydrate. If anything, it's quite the opposite and bread made with quality ingredients is a really good source of fibre and vitamins.
Our flour comes from Shipton Mill which is an artisan Millers based in the Cotswold, Gloucestershire. You will pay a little more for our bread, but you will know what is in there is 100% natural, all organic and you will know that it has been made by a skilled baker with care and attention and pride.

Profiteering gone mad. £1.85 for a coffee is acceptable. But an additional 25p for a splash of cold milk is beyond a joke. Bringing the total to £3.10 for a small americano with cold milk (takeaway. If the owner thinks her local custom base are mugs then good luck. It's £1.70 for four pints of milk over the road at Tesco. That's enough for around 50 cups of tea or coffee - or a near 750% profit on the milk mark up. I was advised that the owner - Caroline - insisted on the charge.
This is actually not about the charge - outrageous profiteering though it surely is. I handed back my coffee as

An expensive place and a few errors that made it not worth it. Food served way to hot, napkin was beneath the rice so rice spilled everywhere to reach it, green tea was served with boiling water so undrinkable for a while and then burnt tasting, the one vegan cake option accidentally had a dairy ingredient on that day so they couldn't serve it. Takeaway options much cheaper than sitting in

Grabbed a quick late lunch here Tuesday 24th August 2021 - Brie roll and five bean roll - it was a bit late and they didn't have much left - wasn't sure if it might be a bit 'dried up' but was actually wonderful and very tasty indeed. lovely friendly staff thank you!

This has become my favourite spot for a coffee and a sweet treat in the New Town. Their coffee is quite nice but the cakes and baked goods are outstanding. Stop by and try it!

Heaven is a place on earth called Archipelago Artisan Bakery!
What a lovely wee place! The staff was exceptionally helpful & the coffee was just delightful. Last week my husband tried their granola bar, I tried their brie cheese sandwich and they were god damn good!
If you are looking for glorious baked goods & cozy ambiance , Archipelago is the place to go!

Really fabulous organic sourdough breads. I also really enjoyed their brownies and date cookies. Probably the best bread I had in Edinburgh. I was a tad less impressed with their sconces, so cannot really recommend them.

I discovered this amazing place by accident - it started raining as I was walking by to I ran in for a coffee. Their croissants looked delicious and I tried one. It was the best one I have had in a year or so! Their coffee is not bad as well. It is by far the best bakery in the neighborhood.

Changing locations soon but offer gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options which they tweet and share on facebook.

Mainly take away and open till around 3pm each day as all products are freshly made on the premises each day.

Had gf bread from here, straight out the oven. It was small but tasty and lasted a couple of days. Soup options commonly offered too so popular for the lunchtime crowd.
