Bakery Andante
We are delighted to announce that our newest site, at 49 Broughton Street is now open. As well as our usual offerings of amazing artisan breads, pastries and patisseries, we are providing coffee, teas, amazing brunches and fantastic lunches and afternoon coffee & cake. And our menu is vegan and Coeliac friendly too with many options available.

We look forward to welcoming you there. Andante is a musical expression meaning 'at a slower tempo', which perfectly describes how we think bread should be made. Our aim is to provide freshly baked breads using locally sourced ingredients, where we can, and made from scratch on our premises. We don't use additives or artificial improvers (even the ones we don't have to admit to), and we allow time to create the depth of flavours.
Services
Our new online shop for home delivery is up and running and can be found here, The site includes pictures, ingredients and, where we have it, nutritional information. Please use the online store ongoing. We deliver daily within Edinburgh, bounded by the Bypass, and we deliver to Musselburgh and Penicuik on a Friday, and Balerno/Currie/Juniper Green on a Saturday.

I bought a Pretzel, a cheese stick, a danish pastry and an almond croissant. I paid just over 8 pounds for this.
Everything was stale and tasted old. You would expect a much better quality for that price. I am not recommending it, Greggs is better quality.

Enter through the chain mail curtain and the window counter is where they come and serve you. The products are exceptional; pastries and breads.

Rats, cobwebs and dirt.
I was working in the bakery and it is the dirtiest place I have been in my life ... expired food, utensils with rust, kitchen utensils on the floor... it's dangerous for your health and wallet. It's expensive!!!
I do not recommend buying.

Great bakery with an eclectic mix of products. Friendly and informative staff. Ask for recommendations on what's good today. I would also suggest going early as this will mean the greatest range of products available.

Delicious baked goods more on the French side. It's a small shop so takeaway only but worth stopping into to grab some fresh bread or a delicious treat for the road.
I Iove their puff pastry with goat cheese and roasted tomatoes! Not as many savoury snacks so They run out fast! But always some sweet pastries or cookies or cakes available !

Made fresh in the back! Fresh is best to eat as you walk to ur next destination ;)

I was really, really, really hungry. And I'd worked really, really, really hard. So hungry that my lunch just didn't cut it. I looked down at my teeny, weeny packed lunch and my stomach growled. 'This shall not do!' it seemed to say. And it didn't. And Bakery Andante was so very tempting that I skipped round from work and got something a little more substantial.

I told the lady behind the counter that I was in the mood for something savoury and she talked me through all the savoury bakes. I picked some sort of spicy, vegetable pastry and it was both huge and glorious and

I have been coming here and getting their goods from the farmers market, for a few years now. Never disappoint. Quality every single time. What I love the most is their New York deli bread. The caraway seeds in the bread really set off the slight sourghdough/rye flavours in the loaf. Excellent when you want to make a pastrami sandwich.
The baguette is also a favourite and we eat it with charcuterie. It's especially nice with a little salami or chorizo. My daughter just loves taking a bite from the end of the baguette, it never makes it home whole.
The sweets do not disappoint. The double

I've been here maybe 3 times or so over the past few years. The first time I got the regular brownie and it was amazing-fresh, chewy, and just chocolatey enough. The second time I came in I wanted that brownie again because it was so good. Unfortunately they were out of the plain chocolate brownies so I tried a hazelnut one. The taste was fine, but I was disappointed in the quality of the brownie as I am sure it was at least a day old. It was dry and crumbly. I decided to give them another chance and got another brownie on another occasion but it too was old and dry. I believe that if a bakery

The most delcious and healthy breads in Edinburgh! Even my husband, who being German is a real Bread Snob, has caved in agreement. My fav are the soudough with various % of grains: spelt, rye, etc. but they have plenty of decadent foods as well!

I visited Bakery Andante after reading good things about their bread. It was a late Saturday afternoon and perhaps most of the breads had already been snapped up. I asked about the 30% rye bread, but they only had the large ones left. I asked how much.. Over £4! Are you kidding me. Ok, it was about a kilo of bread but I still thought it was a bit steep.

They also have a basket of half price day old bread, so I chose a 50% rye bread. It was about 500g, and I paid £2.40 for it (even with discount?). But since I like most of my bread toasted, I reckoned this was a good option.

The bread itself

I've been ogling this place for a while now. It's tiny, but they put their amazing looking goods right in the window to tempt me every time I pass it on the bus. So, just my luck the other day when my bus driver randomly stopped when he got into Morningside and instruct everyone to take the next bus. I decided to do the healthy thing and walk... except then I passed by Andante and saw the croissants. Oops.

And ooooooooooooooooh baby what a croissant it was. Crispy, soft, buttery, moist, beautiful. The woman who served me was brilliant as well, teasing me for the fact that I&apos

A real bakery, something you don't see all that often in Edinburgh these days. Freshly baked bread and goodies galore, this place is a must for decent bakery goods. It makes a nice change from the invasion of greggs.
