Whitwell is a pretty village that sits above the Undercliff approximately three miles north-west of the seaside resort of Ventnor in the south of the Isle of Wight. Niton is its near neighbour with the well-known thatched village of Godshill a couple of miles to the north.

You might hear locals referring to Whitwell as 'Whittle' and its name is thought to have originally been corruption of 'White Well', where white is an old English word meaning pure or clean. The original white well was much venerated in days gone by and visited during medieval times on pilgrimages. The well is located to the south of the village and is 'dressed' every year in the summer.
Whitwell is located in the southern part of the Isle of Wight, which is England's largest island. You can travel from the mainland using a number of car and passenger ferry services, or perhaps the world's only scheduled hovercraft service.

It has been enjoyed as a holiday and short break destination since the 18th Century and became one of Europe's most fashionable resort areas after Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert chose the Isle of Wight as their family's home in the 1800s.The Isle of Wight is shaped like a diamond with 57 miles of coastline available to explore so you are never more than a few miles from the sea wherever you are on the Island.
Discover why The White Horse Inn has quickly become one of the most popular pubs on the Island for eating out. We have setting fro more than 100 restaurant standard dishes or classic pub meals, the same high quality applies. Our head chef has become renowned across the Island for his tender juicy steaks, and mouth-watering curry and Thai options.

It was OK. Not to be memory. Vegetables were uncooked and rock hard. Meat was bought in ready sliced but edible. Roast potatoes were good. Sweets were OK too.

This is a great pub with plenty of room. The pub is in 3 parts, a family area, a restaurant and a bar. The food is always good. A big thank you to the two owners who have run the place superbly.

Popular historic country pub on the IoW. Lovely welcome, extensive menus, good food and ales. Certainly recommended, but advise booking as can be very busy in the evenings
