The White Lion began life as a coaching inn and has been at the heart of the village for well over 200 years. We are open for takeaway & home delivery Tuesday to Saturday 5 to 8.30 pm & Sunday 12 noon till 8 pm. Served with parsley new potatoes, champagne and ginger beurre blanc sauce, watercress reduction & green vegetables. Stuffed with rosemary, asparagus and mushroom risotto, topped with mozzarella cheese, served with crusty bread, salad and caramelised onion chutney.

My wife and I booked on Tuesday for a meal and found out it was all you can eat curry night. Now I rarely eat curry but I thought give it a go. I had the chicken korma and it was gorgeous. We will be returning next week with some of the family. My wife had the veggie version and she cleared her plate, something she has not done in a long time. Well done the chef.

Went for lunch with the family and wasn't disappointed. We had scones and jam...big bowl of mussels with crusty bread and butter...and pate with toast and onion relish.
Scones were warm and freshly cooked. Portion sizes were fantastic. Drinks were reasonably priced aswell. Very friendly accomodating staff . Nothing too much trouble. As an islander...would definitely return.

Great food and friendly staff! Husband had steak and ale pie and I had Gammon. Daughter Chicken nuggets and chips. The chips are wow! Were happy to slightly adjust my meal, nothing asked was a problem there today. Very accommodating. Food was delicious, apparently the best steak and ale pie my Husbands had! Well presented food. The chef (I believe) came from the kitchen and asked how our food was. He made my daughter giggle. Lovely guy.

Staff were polite and friendly, but the food lacked imagination. It was an impromptu visit and filled a hole in our bellies, but it was just ok. The best of the meals was my wife's homemade pie with fresh vegetables which was full of steak and a good size portion. I must say the food was better last time I visited, but that was 19 years ago, and the menu hasn't moved on much from back then. I know it's been a tough couple of years with covid, but it's time to step up or get left behind.

Good pub type food served there. They were very welcoming and friendly; and also very accommodating in our food requests, as we adapted our menu choices slightly. The thing they excel in here though are the desserts. These are restaurant quality desserts and worth every penny in my opinion. Lavasa Coffees (including ones such as latte and cappachino) are also available here.
They have made the decor look lovely in the section we sat in. It had a purple, white and silver theme with a slightly modern twist to it, which is unusual for a pub; but it was a very welcome change from the usual tired old

What a shame. We have used this place many times before without fault but tonight was awful. Ordered 2 rump steak meals (both medium cooked), 1 liver/mash and a burger meal. What we got was 1 rump (overcooked),… 1 rump (fair), 1 sirloin (not even ordered or written down by the lad who served us). overcooked liver and a cheese burger (wanted without cheese). Food was warm not exactly hot and finally 2 peppercorn sauce instead of 1 peppercorn and 1 Dianne sauce. Cost nearly 100 pound and was worth a lot less. The most annoying part was an apology from the waiter, nothing from the pub. We live

The White Lion is a very smartly decorated public house, the decor very tasteful. The staff were especially friendly and helpful. The food served was great, I visited on a "curry night" which I really enjoyed. You received a warm empty plate and you went to a table containing two massive tureens containing three different curries and boiled rice. You filled your plate and you can go back as many times as you like for £12.95. There was a normal menu available in case something different was required.
The toilets were really clean and well maintained.
