The Bun Penny
Online ordering via the app will continue & is encouraged (although ordering at the bar will be permitted). The Bun Penny occupies a prominent position on the road into Lee on the Solent and is only a short walk from the main street and the beach. Originally a farm house and then a coaching inn, this centuries old building has all the charm and character you would expect from a building of its age.

We are particularly proud of our food which is freshly prepared and locally sourced. The menu changes to reflect seasonal availability and there is a Specials Board where we can offer rarer treats. With a wealth of interior space, The Bun Penny can cater for large parties and menus can be created to suit your celebration and pocket.
Services
Served daily, our menus offer something from everyone - lighter lunches from noon together with hearty dishes in the evening. Food allergies or special preferences? Let us know and we'll do our very best to accommodate your requests. We offer a wide range of vegetarian dishes and a growing number of vegan options for you to choose from.
There is plenty to keep you occupied locally, with National Trust properties, castles, museums, steam trains, adventure parks etc and of course the English Riviera with its long sandy beaches and interesting towns. We booked a table for a small group of friends and had a great evening. It was the first time I have been to The Bun Penny and it did not disappoint.
A 5 minute walk from the Bun Penny in one direction and the sea-front in another, Leeward House is ideally placed for visitors to Lee On Solent. With a 4 star Silver award from the English Tourist Board, rooms are well appointed with a high standard of comfort. It offers double and twin rooms all with ensuite/private facilities, free Wi-Fi and Full English breakfast.
The Bun Penny is located on Manor Way, which was originally a medieval track joining the area's agricultural settlements with the villages of Tichfield and Stubbington. The origins of our building go back to medieval times and by the 17th Century it was a farmhouse. In the 19th Century there were attempts to develop Lee on The Solent into a holiday resort with the arrival of the railway, a pier and major developments along the seafront.

Only here long enough for a 3 course set Christmas menu for a business lunch (arrived late, sorry staff). Food very good in appearance, sorry Covid has affected taste and smell to not allow review. Quantity very good. No drinks from the bar to try the service there.

Service was not great, not rubbish, just not great! Certainly the team could so with smartening up there appearance and there table service was not very professional... I'm not your "mate", I'm a customer πŸ™„
My chicken burger was burnt and the chips were cold, when I told the waiter he said "sorry about that" and buggered off!?!
Disappointing as it's a nice venue and it would not take much to make it considerably better.

Arrived this evening for a meal, found a table which wasn't reserved and waited a while, so went to the bar for a menu and was refused service as not booked (stated they aren't allowing walk ins to eat). Which is shocking as had a table like any body else. Especially as we are returning customers this was unexpected. This is how you loose loyal customers.

We've been to the Bun Penny a few times before and it is a pretty reliable, standard pub. Has a nice fireplace in the restaurant and a good outdoor area. Prices are reasonable for the area and food is quite good. Disappointed to arrive at 8.30pm on a Saturday night and be told that the kitchen had shut - quite annoying as their website says 9pm.

So we dropped in after a nice bike ride with the Family and what a pleasant surprise, the food was really tasty and service was also great. They have plenty of seating inside and outside is a nice beer garden . If your passing pop in you won’t be disappointed.😎 hope you enjoy the pics x

Despite being a busy Sunday lunchtime the food we ordered arrived quickly. We had intended to go somewhere else for lunch but we needed to be able to see the car from the window as we had the bikes on the roof. Plenty of parking. Clean toilets. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food. Would definitely recommend.
