Barnet Museum is a free local history Museum in North London run by volunteers. The Museum focuses on Chipping Barnet, East Barnet, New Barnet, Hadley and the surrounding districts. The Museum's collection contains hundreds of artefacts reflecting the history of Barnet and those that have lived there, dating from the Bronze Age to the present day.
There is also an extensive archive, and we are a centre for local and family history research. We are delighted to announce that tickets are now available for the long-awaited performance by The Bull Theatre, Fog of War. The performance is a part of the commemoration of 550th anniversary of The Battle of Barnet.

A number of local buses stop within easy walking distance of the museum, including at the stop directly outside our front door! Parking: there is a multi-storey car park in the Spires Shopping centre and a small public car park behind the museum in the Court House Gardens (down Manor Close, first entrance on your left after the museum, coming from the eastern end of Wood Street).
Our Local History Society helps you find more about Barnet's past and meet other people who enjoy history. Barnet Record Society was formed in 1927 after a group of local people became concerned that Barnet's past was being lost and decided to start a collection of documents and objects relating to the history of Barnet and the surrounding areas.
Barnet Museum is dedicated to investigating, collecting and sharing local history knowledge. We produce an annual History Journal which aims to bring together a wealth of local knowledge from the local community, about local people and events. Below you can explore our archive of journals, including special editions.
Barnet Museum is a centre for family and local history research. Our archive includes books, press cuttings, maps, manuscripts, Kelly's Directories and photographs. Our volunteer staff are always ready to help with enquiries. Copies can usually be made for a small charge. Barnet Museum is collecting oral history about life of Barnet people now or in the past, and would be grateful to anyone who could send us their memories.

If you live in Barnet this is something that you'd want to visit at least once. It is very informative about the past of Barnet and how it came to be as it is today. The staff are all friendly and very knowledgeable about their exhibitions. The museum itself is quite small but there is still lots to look at. I wild not recommend this for children as it can be dreadfully boring.
