Florence Nightingale Museum
Regretfully, but inevitably, the Florence Nightingale Museum has organised a major review of its operations in response to the continuing effects of the pandemic. We are currently open for the first full weekend of each month. Nightingale's legacy has never been more relevant: she founded modern nursing and instigated Wash Your Hands and cleanliness regimes.

Our web shop continues to ship to customers worldwide with a fantastic range of souvenirs, or gifts to say thanks to a healthcare professional. The review was designed to protect the Museum and its collections for the long term. If changes are not made now, the Museum will become financially insolvent before markets recover and visitors return in significant numbers.
Services
A pre-booked ticket system will be in operation, with limited tickets to enable a safe environment for all of our visitors. We will also request that visitors continue to wear a face mask or covering in the museum, for the safety and comfort of our staff and other visitors.

Here at the Florence Nightingale Museum you will find out all about Nightingale; one of our greatest Victorians, the founder of modern nursing, a healthcare pioneer and also discover more about her lasting legacy. You can see the lamp she carried during the Crimean War, her medicine chest, her best-seller 'Notes on Nursing' and also her pet owl, Athena!
The Florence Nightingale Museum celebrates the life and work of the best known figure in nursing history. Did you know Florence Nightingale was the first female member of the Royal Statistical Society? That she owned over 60 cats throughout her life and had a pet owl called Athena. Do you know why she was called Florence?
License high quality images from our rich collection about Florence Nightingale and the history of nursing and medicine. The Florence Nightingale Museum welcomes professional filming and photo shoots. Charges will vary according to your project's requirements. It is important to make firm arrangements in advance so that we can work around our busy schedule and to help you achieve your goals.
The Museum had been planning for a year of celebrations in 2020, the bicentenary of Nightingale's birth, but instead we are now struggling to survive. You can still visit our exhibition, Nightingale in 200 Objects, People & Places online, which celebrates Florence's bicentenary.

Florence is remembered as the founder of modern nursing, but she was so much more; a female icon in her own lifetime, a healthcare pioneer, an influential statistician, a trailblazer and a leader. And her legacy still lives on today.
Nightingale is respected worldwide for her pioneering role in developing the nursing profession, her statistical work, and her evidence-based approach to healthcare. In honour of her bicentenary the World Health Organisation named 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. In our special exhibition, you will find out about objects, people and places which tell interesting stories about Florence's life and legacy.

A nice little museum with gift shop, takes about an hour and a half to walk around at a leisurely pace and read all the information. A nice mixture of information, interaction and multi-medias, there's a little dress up area for kids to get involved with as well.
A good museum to visit without getting bored/tired walking around.

Learnt so much about Florence Nightigale and also the social context in which she lived. Well presented and lots to see. All I can say is thank goodness I live in the present day. The treatment 150 years ago was pretty basic, even in UK hospitals let alone in war hospitals.

During this pandemic, I am in awe of the special mixture of heart and mind, that makes possible the grit, love and service the nursing team provides - patient after patient. So many nurses have given their lives so those in their care may continue theirs.
Viewing the dioramas, displays, and memorabilia, you learned about the "practice of care" Florence Nightingale found, and changed, to become the founder of modern nursing.
The Florence Nightingale Museum has brought me closer to an understanding of this special commitment.
Wheelchair accessible, of course. Parking available. The museum is about

You would think it would be easy to find with a big sign, and once you see it down the pathway you are on track. A real shining light and leader in her field. This would be ultimate history on her life.

Although somewhat difficult to find, the Nightingale museum is so helpful to any history-geeks, especially if you’re interested in healthcare. Put it on your list of post – pandemic places to visit!

It's fun to visit a museum that is physically a part of a relevant institution (in this case St Thomas hospital). Free NHS WiFi was even available.
Skip some of the queues pushing and juggling only minutes away on the south bank to see some Shrek exhibit, and instead come here for way less money, sure, a bit less pizzaz, but a whole lot more interest and knowledge.
There are many reasons why Nightingale is a legend, and this museum helped me to fill understand them.

A small but interesting museum. Currently there is a special exhibition on the impact of the Spanish Flu following on from the First World War. The main exhibition gives an insight into Florence Nightingales life and her impact on healthcare. It shows particularly the tireless work that she and her team of nurses performed during the Crimean War.
I think the concession rate for pensioners should be 60 not 65; most other attractions in London use 60 as the concession age. I thought £8 was a bit too expensive for the size of museum. I think £5 would be a fair price.

Interesting museum to visit if you are looking for something different to do in London. You will find out about the lady with the lamp and how she helped the sick and wounded. The exhibition is well laid out and informative. I enjoyed my visit, I went to investigate for my blog and would recommend this to anyone interested in nursing and important historical women.

As a nurse this is an amazing museum! It showed the beginning of nursing as a profession in healthcare. Without Florence's drive so many would not have followed.

We stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall, just down the street! We didn't know when we booked the hotel how close we were to this delightful museum! Definitely worth a visit! Don't forget to see the Mary Seacole statue on the hospital grounds in the park area nearer to the Thames!

An off the beaten track museum is the Florence Nightingale museum, situated at the back of St. Thomas hospital. It is a quite small museum and most is contained in one room. It will take you on a journey on both the life and times of the lady with the lamp, but it will also tell you about the evolution of nursing with a focus on the military side. Though not big the museum can definitely keep you there for an hour or so and on a rainy day you can sit through a classic movie or two about Florence. The ticket is valid all day so you can always come back if it starts raining!
