At The Hackney Peddler we specialise in refurbishing classic steel frames. We know steel is the ultimate bike frame material - lively to ride, lovely to look at, and extremely long-lasting. We custom build bikes to suit your needs. Choose from single speed or geared options, flat or drop handlebars, and further customise your new stead with your choice of saddle and accessories.
Choose a frame only or order your frame with a build kit - single speed/fixed, 8 speed, or with modern Campagnolo or Shimano groups. All bikes are built and tested by our team of expert mechanics before being boxed and shipped. We offer our finest vintage bicycles online, with our in-store selection starting from 550.
These are our prebuilt offerings, build and shipping times will be greatly reduced compared to that of custom builds. Please allow 3-5 working days before dispatch. We will be in touch every step of the way. At The Hackney Peddler, we believe vintage is synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and style.
Our bikes are all unique. They arrive with us from various suppliers across the UK and Europe in varying states of disrepair. Some are very special, some less so but all are of an era when most things (especially bicycles) were made properly. Handcrafted with great skill and attention. Even mid-range and fairly inexpensive bicycles emerging from the Raleigh factory, for example, up until as recently as the mid 80s were all hand-built.
We offer full restoration and refurbishment services for all manner of vintage bikes. One solid single colour, raw lacquer finishes, restorations and more extravagant finishes are available. Frame repair and full paint restoration will be quoted for upon request; email pictures of your bike or frame to workshop@thehackneypeddler.co.uk or bring it into the shop to discuss your options.

Been meaning to go here for a little while, expected that servicing my bike would've taken longer as they're quite busy usually - but I was wrong! The AMAZING George managed to turn around my requests within the hour, he was super thorough, took the time to explain everything and overall was just super friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend The Hackney Peddler 👌🏽

Having used a myriad of bicycle shops over the years, corporate to independent, Hackney Peddler thankfully have consistently provided excellent service hence this review.
From the contemporary store aesthetic, very friendly and welcoming staff, efficient booking system, competitive prices (especially being so close to the city), mechanics who work to a high standard and yet most importantly are honest, to the very comfortable sofa in store it's a great place for cyclists.
I can't fault THP, long may that continue!

Turned up by chance 5 mins before closing time, having just managed to maul my own tyre to death with a bike pump. Was greeted with a smile, offered a seat, and walked out 5 mins later with a perfectly pedallable bike. The best fifteen quid I've spent in ages! This won't be the first or the last time I accidentally destroy a vital component of my beloved bike, so I'll definitely be back.

Hackney Peddler sort me straight away with vintage parts in stock! Reasonably priced also.
Went to a few other bike shops to ask about the vintage derailleur for my Peugeot bike. Waited for weeks to get a slot for the other shops just to tell me they couldn’t do anything about it as they don’t have the parts.
V happy with the staff and service.

I popped into the Hackney Peddler to ask for help with an issue with my brakes. I had no appointment so my expectation was that they would say they couldn’t help unless I booked. Fortunately it was just the opposite. They were busy but still took the bike in and despite the issue not being a quick fix they persevered and repaired the fault. Really nice bunch of people. I would recommend the shop to anyone. Thanks Hackney Peddler team. 😀🚴

I visited The Hackney Peddler for the first time after my chain came off cycling to work down Kingsland Road. They were quite a long walk from where I broke down, however I had previously had a bad experience with the bike repair shop closer to Dalston so decided to walk the extra block to The Hackney Peddler.

I had an issue with a stuck rear derailleur that another workshop couldn't fix after several days. I passed by here and they were able to take a quick look at it right away, and I dropped it in the following day. Mario was able to fix the problem within a couple of hours. I was so pleased. These guys know their stuff and the service is good. Will be my new go to place for my bike servicing and repairs.

Really great, friendly team who fixed the chain on my bike which had managed to get itself tangled around the cogs. I had previously been quoted thirty pounds by Halfords to rectify the problem, which I considered extortionate. However, I was beyond delighted when THP said they would do it free of charge. You can't beat local, independent businesses.

I am utterly disappointed with the quality and service levels. Sloppy work and arrogant communication. A £600 bike, but gears hardly switching, the chain falling off all the time. The handlebar tape falling off after 2 months despite the bike has never seen the rain. Also, I am struggling to get my refund after enrolling into the cycle to work… scheme and now paying for my bike in double. The owner is seemingly too busy to call me back or at least respond my emails when exactly I should call to process my refund. The only communication has been that they are too busy - which honestly

Fortunately I've never had to write a poor review in the past. Really bad experience with these guys. Paid for bespoke bike up front (£1000). Bike was not complete when promised, no communication throughout. Bike was built in 4 hours whilst I waited. Now things are falling apart and they haven't been in touch. No customer care whatsoever. Feel cheated. All I wanted was my dream bike.
