My dear Carlyon, It is so hot down here that I find it impossible to write decently. I only came down from the hills yesterday. I am writing to tell you that I have sent you a box containing some seeds of Quercus semecarpifolia in charcoal. This oak now stands proud at 25m height at Tregrehan. Veteran trees, oak and sweet chestnut survive since the first half of the 1600's in the Park.
Tregrehan has been home to the Carlyon family since 1565. Jovey Carlyon's passion for trees during the late 19th century is evident in the towering specimens seen today. Beneath this canopy Gillian Carlyon's (1924-1987) renowned collection of camellias flourish.

In quiet rebellion against this promiscuous genus, the botanical collection of the current 'gardener' (encumbered with the same passion as his forebears) requires an appreciation of the diversity of the world's flora. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (ie boots) for your trip around the garden which may involve some steep slopes.
Port of Charlestown, 10 mins west, Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre and Square Sail Shipyard. Historic town of Fowey, 15 minutes by car on the South Coast, is well worth a visit and provides good shopping, restaurants, pubs and boating activities. Tregrehan is a mile inland from the south coast, overlooking Carlyon Bay golf course to the sea.
