The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District.
The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District's renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater.

Not worth £180 per night - Our room was shabby, the towels were threadbare, the seat in our room was pealing and whole of the bottom corridor in the annex (next to our room) flooded.
The only positives were the lovely staff, the location and the couple who we had a drink with/befriended while complaining about the room (they were also complaining). Save yourself £50 and book into one of the cheaper and nicer hotels/pubs nearby.

M y standard double room was very small and cramped paint peeling of wall behind curtain. The twin next door was much bigger. We discovered at breakfast that the room we were allocated was swapped out to other guests who arrived before us as they obviously complained about the room so got ours. Due to excessive rain, water was coming through the lower level of the outer building we were staying in. Whilst staff where very helpful and friendly the hotel was not as expected. We have emailed hotel 5 times and had no reply and we know they have seen emails.

Really lovely place to stay. A special thanks to Chelsea and Rebecca who were very helpful, kind and made our stay very special for my birthday. Very comfy bed and extremely clean room, delicious breakfast and wonderful surroundings, a really great place to sit outside with a drink. Unfortunately 4 stars out of 5 as I was a rather concerned the hotel employ no overnight staff, if you get locked out toileting the dog or having a smoke after half 11 you've had it! You can ask for a key but it all seems a bit strange there not being any staff on the premises at all! But otherwise I would recommend

Just returned after 3 excellent nights. Visited previously and never disappoints. Dog friendly, very comfortable, clean accommodation. Fabulous position which meant that we didn’t start the car once as we went for some fabulous walks straight from the hotel. The Riverside bar always managed to quench our thirst after a long walk and Nick and the team were always welcoming at Dinner where an extensive menu is served. Jason and Kate on the front desk directed us whenever we required help. Big shout out to the bar staff (sorry we didn’t get your names) who stayed to the end. If you want a lovely

Only popped in for a drink and to use their car park before a half days walking but we still had to pay the £5 park fee. Took a while to get staff attention but other than that it was a clean and pleasant place with some nice seating areas outside and plenty of patrons which is usually a good sign. Prices average for the area.

I was told we could get a table for food at 6pm or wait until 8pm sitting. Me and a friend drank in the beer garden until 7:45 to then be told they’re fully booked (they don’t take booking). Had we been told to wait inside from 7pm there would have been no issue and we would have happily waited. Thoroughly disappointing visit made worse by abysmal attitude from staff. My advice to anyone is go to the Langstrath Inn instead.
