Keep it up, and after a few sessions, you will be pleasantly surprised by how you are able to cope with the challenge. This challenging form of yoga will bring you flexibility, balance, and whole-body strength, leading to better form, efficiency, and power in your sport or everyday activities. I first started doing yoga as part of my rehabilitation following a knee operation, in an attempt to ensure I regained full range of motion.
Dynamic Balance has made me aware that I need to listen to my body and mind in so many more ways than I did before. I have started to create a balance in my training and up to now it has had a positive impact on my training performance. I think I may actually be a bit calmer now as well! Robs Dynamic Balance sessions have massively benefited my running.

When I was looking to start a yoga practice there were many classes in York, but those classes weren't providing a particularly dynamic form of yoga - which is fine - but I needed a stronger form of Yoga to satisfy my physical needs. There's a saying "when the student is ready the teacher will come".
Ashtanga Yoga is a unique yoga system that links full rhythmic breathing with powerful postures. Deep internal heat purifies the body whilst enhanced levels of concentration relax the mind. Internal energy locks strengthen the nervous system. This 10 week course introduces you to the fundamentals of breath, bandhas (energy centres) and drishti (gaze points).

Internal energy locks strengthen the nervous system. Having practiced other styles of yoga for some years I attended Rob's Ashtanga beginners course earlier this year.
Following the beginners sessions, this is the perfect way to take your practice to the next level. It is also appropriate if you have dropped out of Ashtanga and need a gentler practice to get you back to the mat. We reinforce the strengthening aspects of the standing sequence and add postures to open hips and shoulders, Backbends are introduced along with postures for the upper body that will help you to hold a strong Chaturanga (low push up).
To assist continuation into the full primary series the practice is broken down into 5 weeks. Of course - you won't be expected to get into these challenging postures in just a few weeks so suitable modifications of the full posture are given throughout. After each 5 week schedule you will discover little improvements within your practice.

Having practiced other styles of yoga for some years I attended Rob's Ashtanga beginners course earlier this year. Five months later I'm attending Improvers sessions and have a regular home practice - a result of Rob's encouragement and inclusive teaching style. Ashtanga is a demanding but hugely rewarding discipline which has improved my flexibility and strength but has also made me calmer, more patient and, I think, more compassionate. I leave classes tired but full of joy; I can't recommend Rob's teaching highly enough if you want to make lasting improvements to your life!

So I started yoga at 40yo with a back injury. I found a local class that was great as an into to yoga and helped with my injury. I soon realised that I needed a more challenging yoga class to complement my level of fitness, my sporting desires and also because I realised that if I could find the right class, yoga was something to include in my fitness regime. I found exactly what I was looking for in the dynamic balance class with Rob at City Yoga. A challenging class for me, but after the first couple of months I have felt many benefits. My main sporting focus is long distance cycling, comfort

I have been attending Robs classes for several years now and believe I owe my health and stamina and positive outlook to his teaching.
His classes are always challenging and his teaching style means that you progress with his gentle encouragement along your own personal yoga journey.
Highly highly recommended for people of all ages and stages of their yoga journey.

Beyond any shadow of doubt the best yoga in York. Rob's classes cater for all levels and there are people from all walks of life. This is time very well spent. Rob is highly motivated, knows his students and works hard in every class to help them achieve their goals. You never feel uncomfortable or out of place. A good mix of females and males in most classes.
