First opening its doors in 1925, Cooper & Barr is a family-run business spanning over three generations and serving over 25,000 patients throughout the North East and North Yorkshire. William and Evelyn Cooper opened their first practice over 90 years ago on Grange Road in Middlesbrough town centre.
We've been looking after the eyes of many people in our local area for over 90 years, and in that time we've learned a thing or two. Principally, if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. And not being rushed.

We're experienced in fitting all types of contact lenses, including multifocal lenses, gas permeable lenses and Ortho-K overnight vision correction, so we can find a lens that suits your needs. Giving you wider fields of vision, contact lenses are less restrictive than glasses and can be worn for sports or activities where glasses would be impractical.

I have only attended two petitions in my life. A branded franchise and Cooper and Barr. My customer experience was second to none. Unlike the other optician who had me walking out with full strength glasses, Cooper and Barr took time to examine me, explain why my eyesight had deteriorated and advise me on my next step. They were courteous , professional and reassuring. The aftercare and continued support is superb.

Servicewise, excellent apart from one young lady who didn't think she needed to listen to my complaint because she was "qualified", but these glasses have been a disaster.
Paying double the specsaver rate for super Nikon lenses with the widest field of vision, the lenses had to be remade and they are still nowhere near clear over the area they purport to be, I have to turn my head to see something clearly.
I can't decide if it's worth going back yet again or just to give up as a bad job.

Terrible service!
I called them at 3.30pm on Saturday and told them I needed to replace my child's glasses as the frame was broken. They said "bring them in on Monday and we'll see if we can fix them"
I told them they're definitely not fixable so could I order new ones.
They said they were closing at 4pm today so I said I'd be there just in time to order... At 3.50 I called them to confirm I was 5 minutes away..NO answer.. I arrived at 3.55pm..they were closed! Still left 'open' sign outside presumably as they were in such a rush.
Disgusting customer service!
