Every single cake and biscuit we sell is hand-made and baked in small batches in our Cambridgeshire bakery. We do not use any mixes - everything is made from scratch using only natural ingredients. Our eggs are free range from local farms, our flour is milled in Essex and our vegetables are from the Fens.
In season, our fruit is from local farmers and our lavender is from Norfolk. We take the provenance of our ingredients extremely seriously. Our wide range flows with the seasons - be it a light summer Lavender Cake or an autumn Bramley Apple and Cinnamon Cake. We also produce a delicious range of handmade biscuits.

Services
We are proud to serve coffee from Allpress Espresso, renowned as one of the leading roasters in the country. They also train our baristas. Our tea is supplied by Good & Proper Tea from London. Their focus on provenance and ethical trading immediately chimed with our own ethos - and they source exceptionally good tea to boot!

A great tea room, open and airy and a perfect location looking out on the High Street and choir school. Good selection of teas and coffee as well as fresh tempting cakes! It's very popular too so that tells you what you need to know! Very reasonable prices too, which makes a nice change for something with such a great position.

Got the banana bread, and was not disappointed! Good portion sizes and very sweet staff behind the counter. Had my mask on and they had a plastic screen, they couldn't hear me but were very patient and we got there in the end! A great spot to take visiting family and friends. Wheelchair accessible entrance, with plenty of space and seating indoors, and some outside.

It’s no surprise that this little tea room is always busy. The ladies behind the counter are all friendly, helpful, fast and efficient. Fantastic teamwork in action. The cakes and the savouries are absolutely to die for! Decor clean and appealing. Toilet facilities - in spite of how busy these ladies are - smells fresh and all clean and working! If you’ve not been to Tom’s cakes, let this review be the reason you do go!

A beautiful coffee shop in the middle of historic Ely city centre. A modern yet chic interior, the staff are super friendly & helpful. The range of cakes on display are as phenomenal as they are delicious. Pictured here is a Chocolate Caramel Shortbread and the layers on this are generous to say the least and super delish! Definitely worth being tempted in….maybe more than once! 🤩

I've never had the luck to get inside the shop in Cambridge but I've heard such praise for the cakes sold here. They are so good and tasty. The chocolatey cake I had was so very delicious. They had quite a few gluten free cakes as well which was superb. I will definitely come back if I am ever in Ely again and will try to finally visit the cambs restaurant when I can.
The people queuing to enter the shop were probably had the same experience.

We found Tom's cakes while waiting to check-in our accommodation. It is beautiful cozy place, various pastry choices, some tables inside and a quiet lovely backyard.
We got the wheatfree cake, an americanto and a latte and sat on one of the tables in the backyard. Service was friendly, coffee was very good and the pastry was very fresh, not too sweet, and with yummy, melts-in-your-mouth cream.
I wish i had a photo of the place: the backyard is not too large. It ends in a wooden hedge on one side and a mossy brick wall on another. The far end overlooks a few large trees. There are a few

Best cakes and pastries in town and we've sampled them all. About a dozen selections that can change daily and we haven't been disappointed yet. Superb long time standards like Victoria sponge cake, lemon drizzle, carrot cake and scones with cream, to more creative concoctions like lemon rosemary cake and lots of kinds of chocolatey things. Place has a friendly vibe. Often too crowded to visit (they really need a bigger place) but if weathers good try the garden. Also nice soups and such for lunch.

A friend recommended Tom's cakes. I was in a rush and just popped in for some takeaway pastries for a picnic. My first impression of the look of the display and shop were just OK. I purchased a raspberry pastry, a strawberry tart and a brownie as most others would be a bit messier for a picnic. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The brownie was average, the raspberry and strawberry pastries however were excellent! The strawberry tart seemed to use custard as opposed to my preferred creme patissiere but was excellent nonetheless. We will be back to give Tom's cake a better
