Services
Having first opened our haberdashery drawers back on Valentine's Day 2011 it's fair to say we've changed a lot in that time. However, what hasn't changed is our unwavering commitment to using the best, locally sourced ingredients we can get our hands on. We're proud to use flour milled in Fife, Scottish butter and local free-range eggs.
Cuckoo's Bakery isn't all about the cupcakes you know. We're equally passionate about looking after the environment, the local community, our staff and sourcing ethical produce wherever we can. All the eggs we use are free range, laid by hens that roost just 8 miles from our bakery at a farm in Dalkeith.
For a truly memorable slice of delight, order one of our celebration or birthday cakes! Always baked fresh from scratch in our Edinburgh bakery using local free-range eggs and Scottish butter. Our bakers will even ice your personal message on the top for no extra charge. The following cakes can be baked with gluten-free flour: Sticky Toffee Pudding, Banana & Sea Salted Caramel, or Carrot.
Make someone's day with a cupcake gift box! We've created a series of handpicked collections for you to choose from. Freshly baked and lovingly decorated, each Cuckoo's cake is a unique taste of luxury, straight from our bakery in Edinburgh. We think our combinations are tip top, but if you would prefer to put together your own combination of flavours, please select your favourite individual cakes from our Cupcake page.
Within a stone's throw of Edinburgh's beautiful Botanic Gardens, Stockbridge and The New Town our cafe at 150 Dundas Street is ideally situated. Whether you want to catch up with friends over a locally sourced coffee or speciality tea, fancy a bite to eat from our breakfast, brunch and lunch menus or would like to pop in to pick up or order cakes; we have all these bases covered and many more.

We bought four cupcakes and two of them were absolutely delicious with super moist cake (and quite a bit of frosting!). But the other two were the exact opposite; they were terribly dry and almost stale tasting, despite being bought and tried on the same day. Would love to give a higher rating but we threw away half our order which was a shame.

I wouldn't order from this place again. From pictures I saw the website, what they show and what they deliver is completely different. I sent them an email but the owner really doesn't seem to care about the quality of what they send out. The whole point of paying their premium is for the design but if they can't guarantee that what's the point of ordering from them? This was meant to be a gift and what was sent out left me really disappointed.

The team at the bakery were amazing. After being let down last minute, Sammie and Fiona were both so kind and helped arrange delivery of some cupcakes for my dads birthday - even personally dropped them off at… the hotel and threw in a few free cupcakes! Due to Covid restrictions etc, we weren’t all able to travel or spend dads birthday with him, so my parents went away together. We just wanted to do something special for dad and Cuckoo’s really helped this. Thank you!!

Cuckoo Bakery is just a sweet little shop. Hard to go wrong with cupcakes and cookies (and more!). Personally, I think there is more frosting than necessary, and they don't have my favorite as a standard flavor (a caramel sponge with a creamy caramel centre topped with dark chocolate wrapped around a fluffy italian meringue), but we've tried a variety of flavors, and they rarely go wrong. In the absence of the 'Hugs and Kisses' cupcake, my go-to is 'Chocolate and Sea-Salted Caramel'. Their empire biscuits are lovely with their tea and coffee.

I have gone to his bakery on many occasions because their cakes and brownies are the best in Edinburgh (in my humble opinion). The flavours are creative, thoughtful and unique. There is always something for everyone - cake flavours, cookies, brownies and scones. You get a lot for your money in terms of portion size, flavour and decoration.
The staff are always very friendly, appear happy at work and authentically engage with customers.
We hired Cuckoos to do our wedding cakes in June 2019 and the whole experience was fun (and delicious!). The wedding coordinator, Sophie, was so enthusiastic and

Sweet little spot for a tea and cupcake! The staff was lovely and the service was quite quick.
Definitely a nice spot to sit in and enjoy your drink.
I had the red velvet cupcake, and saw they offer a couple of gluten free options as well. Nice to be able to invite friends who aren't able to take part at most spots.
Would certainly reccomend.

Hey you! Yeah you!
Stop spending time reading this when you could be eating a cuckoo's cupcake.
Like seriously, they are good.
So good you will secretly go to the shop and not tell your boyfriend and eat both of them on the bus home and feel equal parts guilty and happy.

Not quite a 5 star as I'm not a huge fan of sitting in here, but thats because I'm a picky potato.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a fan of a cupcake (or three!) so it's no surprise that I have visited Cuckoo's a few times now. This was my second visit to their shop on Dundas Street.

The shop is beautifully designed with it's modern take on a vintage tea shop. The cuckoo theme runs throughout and the walls are adorned with hand-made art. We find a table for two and peruse the menu.

We're too late for breakfast (damn, as it looks delicious!) but I go for the Tuscan Bean Soup and David chooses a warm cheese and herb scone. They also offer sandwiches, salads and

Lunch and a cupcake - well, when in Rome...

In preparation of the Big Big Sing St Andrews event that was happening today, the SR and I went to fuel up in Stockbridge (oh yeah and maybe peruse the earthly delights of the market while we were there) and Cuckoo Bakery just lured us both in (ok, probably more me going 'yes! There! I have no idea if they do food!). There was no time to Yelp. There was only time to go.

Luckily for us - apart from very pretty looking cupcakes, we were able to chow down on some carrot & parsnip soup (very homey-style soup) and the humus and roasted veg sandwich

I. Love. This. Place.

That is not an overstatement. Because only true love can lead an American - nay a Californian - to brave the Scottish weather and walk down Dundas Street from Marchmont.

The basic stripped down cake recipes and buttercreams at Cuckoo's is nothing special. What makes Cuckoo's unique is their bold and innovative flavours. Ginger cupcakes on St. Patrick's Day, Grapefruit Meringue, a 'Kamikaze Cupcake' with a lime vodka filling, and my all time favorite: white chocolate cake with lavender filling. (I still think about it despite having had it mother

Cuckoo's is lovely, isn't it? I confess I've never had the chance to sit in (it's always been too busy), but I've bought cakes to take away several times and have always been completely satisfied.

Cuckoo's specialise in cupcakes, of course, but that's not the only thing they sell. Recently I popped by and picked up a couple of Oreo Cheesecake Brownies - oh wow, these are amazing. The next time they tweet that they're on the menu I am coming by!

And the cupcakes, oh the cupcakes! I'll confess not to being a huge fan of cupcakes (does anyone really need

Cuckoo's did something to make my birthday above and beyond special. I was studying abroad in Scotland and was very much missing celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend in the States. He communicated through email with Cuckoo's to send me some special cupcakes.

On the afternoon of my birthday, 6 deliciously amazing cupcakes wrapped in the prettiest box with a handwritten birthday card were delivered to my door. Not every company will go out of their way to make someone feel special, especially not when the business end of the transaction was from across the Atlantic! I appreciated

So Im not the skinniest girl, I mean I'll not be giving Miranda Kerr a run for her money anytime soon, run me??? I partly blame Cuckoo's for this! We moved to the area just after they opened and I was at first using my pregnancy as an excuse for my obsessive cupcake eating - trying to get through every flavour they have - no mean feat they have daily specials..

However, that was awhile ago and I'm still frequenting Cuckoo's on a regular basis! There is something adorable about this place, from the name, the cute crockery and their little cuckoo clock and glass cabinet in
