Services
We have two consulting rooms, disabled access and are registered to provide NHS eye examinations where eligible. If you have an eye-related emergency, we can provide a fast assessment of your condition with treatment or onward referral to an ophthalmologist. Catriona qualified from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1990 and has worked in independent practices in Essex, Kent and Sussex.
NHS eye examination- this includes free retinal photography, which lets us track the health of your eyes over time. Free if you qualify for an NHS eye examination. Enhanced eye examination- this includes Optomap Ultra-widefield retinal imaging, allowing us to examine 80% more of your retina, five times more than standard retinal photography - it costs just 69 ( or 29 if you qualify for an NHS eye test).
The retina is the delicate tissue at the back of the eye which sends a picture to your brain enabling you to see. The retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions e.g. AMD, glaucoma, retinal tears/detachments other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke can also be seen in the retina.
That's why we recommend an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scan as part of your regular eye examination. It can help us detect sight-threatening issues up to five years before traditional testing methods, and often many years before you notice any change in your vision yourself. OCT works a little like ultrasound for the eye.
Just as children's mobility and brains develop quickly, so too do their eyes. Your children's eyesight is their most precious sense and is essential for a happy healthy childhood. Up to 80% of learning in primary school is visually based and unknowingly many children struggle because of undetected eye problems.

I personally wouldn't visit any other optician and I have total faith and trust in Catriona and her team. I have complex issues with my eyes which has totally bamboozled other opticians in the area over the years but thankfully I visited Gardiner opticians about 10+ years ago and feel totally confident and extremely happy with the service and expertise they offer.
