John Crawshaw is proud to have his name over the door of his shops because he has been involved with the business for most of his life. Crawshaw's Butchers was founded by John's father Brian when he opened their first shop in Stocksbridge in 1955. Even as a school boy, much of John's spare time was spent working in the shop, "I always seemed to be working there", he recalls.
Married with two teenage sons, Wayne has worked at John Crawshaw's for 23 years and you can usually find him in our Hillsborough shop. Wayne is a big football fan and an accomplished junior soccer coach. Local lad Rob has worked at John Crawshaw's for over 14 years, during which time he has learned his trade and progressed through the ranks.
The day starts early for our dedicated behind the scenes team who open up and get cracking with making fresh and tasty food for our shops and catering customers. Our head chef leads a team who make the pastry for our pies and pasties and the tasty filling to go with them! At the same time, our team of skilled butchers will be preparing cuts of meat or creating yet more delicious sausages.
While we don't exactly hide our light under a bushel, we aren't in the habit of chasing awards just for the sake of them. We prefer to concentrate on serving our customers with the finest quality meats. Since then we been finalists in the butcher of the year awards (2007) and we were FSB business of the year also in 2007.
Food production and manufacturing facilities at John Crawshaws are approved fully by the national body of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) while our retail shops being monitored by the local environmental authority star ratings. John Crawshaws itself on extremely high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, we have our own inhouse training and induction scheme for all our employees that comprehensively deals with all aspects in this area.

Visited Crawshaws today, arrived about 5.00pm. Our in store experience was disappointing to say the least (it was obvious that floor cleaning operations had just been completed but unfortunately there was no warning signage in place). There were 2 elderly ladies in the shop who very nearly walked into the bucket. One of the young female sales assistants was very off hand when asked a simple question about product availability. What was of particular concern was the lack of instructions on how to cook the products purchased. As far as I am aware, Crawshaws has always had a good name in the Stocksbridge

Purchased a home made chicken and ham pie, labelled clearly chicken and ham. I put a be forkfull into my mouth and it was full of mushrooms. I'm allergic to mushrooms and my wife clearly picked chicken and ham not the chicken and mushroom. I have photos of the pie and I have the label from the pie. Obviously the pie be was labelled incorrectly. I have contacted you but had no response. Contact me 070914976775

It was excellent but Service appears to be getting much worse. Prices often charged are wrong especially when it comes to their offers. But the simple things as giving approx weight asked for never seems to happen the last few times it's been at least 25% less than requested. Its a shame it used to be really good service.
