Before the pub was taken over by Fuller's, The Cromwell Arms was called the Horse & Jockey. Fuller's took over in 2015, and gave it a thorough refurbishment before reopening two years later. The country elegance was balanced out with modern touches, reflecting the delicate balance of traditional and contemporary dishes that make their way out of our Fuller's kitchen and onto the plates of happy diners daily.
Romsey, the market town where The Cromwell Arms is located, was home to a number of prominent figures in history. We stayed for one night on Christmas Eve. The room was clean with an incredibly comfy bed. The staff (from the bar as we arrived late) were really friendly. There was live music in the bar, but you couldn't hear this within the room. Breakfast the following day was fantastic, and again the staff were lovely and really accommodating. Plus it's dog friendly...couldn't ask for much more!

We have just had a weeks stay.Generally good. Some great staff ( Charlotte & David). Food was very good. Would have liked 2 chairs in the Indulgence room as there was 2 of us & a bigger wardrobe. It's ok for 1 or 2 nights but not big enough for a week. Towels & bedding great. Disappointed to be told when we arrived that there were no daily papers as advertised on their site & the advertised Queen tribute night was cancelled. Really need to update the website. Often reception not manned. Overall a pleasant stay.

We ate a meal here which was not good. My husband ordered fish and chips, and one end of the fish was burnt. I ordered roasted aubergine and it was had and not cooked through and hard to eat. The room was really lovely and tastefully decorated. Nice comfortable bed and good shower. We had a coffee machine in our room which we had to look up on YouTube on how it worked. The people walking on the wooden floor outside our room, opening and closing their door was very annoying. I think this woke me up a few times in the night. Then the gardener cutting the grass outside our window really early in the

The rooms are really nice with some lovely finishing touches. All staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food is expensive in the restaurant for very simple pub style grub. Corridors need carpet, as they echo and are all very damp, doors have warped and stick hard. For a one night stay we did feel this was very overpriced.

One of busy places in Romsey, female service always very helpful and open-minded. Food great and in love with outside atmosphere and bar lady,
Unfortunately yesterday visit did bring a lot confusion about… service there.
Gentlemen were a bit slow reply with friends and family: I’m not sure that gentleman in long hair and short trousers got English sense of humour, mixed feelings came across also with a blonde hair gentleman as he mixed drinks order and didn’t bring Romsey one I have ordered on time.
PS Please look after your staff as one of young females working on service couldn

Sad to say, after a year or so we returned to this pub only to be disappointed... The menu has been stripped of local/ signature dishes and we later found out the place is now owned by Fullers. It changed hands in Jan 2015 and they stopped honouring the 'Delicious Dining' rewards at the end of February. Not only the menu had suffered but the service was lacklustre and so was the food. Prices for starters range from £5-8 and mains from £11-15. Frankly, this is not value for money. If you've never been before it's an ok place to eat but if you've been here in it's
