Your host Shirley welcomes you to her imaginatively named Victorian Villa, built around 1865 and still offering many original features. The Fourposter lodge has been in the family for over 30 years and offers traditional b&b accommodation with the dcor reflecting the Victorian aspect of the property.
Centre, are all invitingly close - in fact, just a leisurely 10 minute stroll via Fishergate or Walmgate Bar. York University and the Barbican Centre are but a whisper away, in fact we're midway between the two. We stayed in room 5 at the Four Poster Lodge for 2 evenings and had a lovely stay. The room was lovely and clean with a patio window out to where our car was parked which was brilliant for bringing in our luggage.

The En Suite had a bath in which was a real luxury when you consider how reasonably priced it is.

Not very happy with this place.
The bed was very uncomfortable the mattress had a dip in the middle and one side off the bed, shower wasn't working properly due to a faulty switch complained about it and was told to bang it no way would I bang something electrical dangerous as far as I'm concerned . The water from the shower when it did work which I might say was only once wasn't hot.
Should have been maid service we only got this on one day the next day we got back to our room to find it hadn't been made up bed was unmade , bedding wasn't particularly clean , didn't enjoy the breakfast.

Great value bed and breakfast, in walking distance of the heart of York. Pricing was excellent. Good standard of breakfast. The room was fine for three, if slightly cosy. Shower was a little short of pressure but fair. It's in a student district, so don't expect it to be silent but it wasn't particularly an issue. Would certainly be top if the list when we return for location and price alone.

A good base from which to explore York, room was clean and had pretty much what you'd expect for a guest house. We didn't sleep well though as the mattress seemed very old and creaked a lot. There was also no way of controlling the radiators or their temperature so it was always boiling in the room and we were in a room at the top of the property. Only spoke to staff twice, once when I arrived and once when I checked out. The lady who checked us in was pleasant but the lady who checked us out wasn't that friendly. She seemed to be in the middle of cleaning so I asked her where I should leave the

Had room 3 above the front door, very noisy when people come in at 3 in the morning. The ensuite toilet was so noisy to use that I had to use the downstairs toilet rather than wake my family. The room above ours had such a bouncy floor that our glass light fittings rattled and clanged about from 3 till gone 5 in the morning. The room smelled of what I can only guess embalming fluid smells like. The breakfast was cold and sparse. The glasses for juice should have been thrown out ages ago due to dishwasher marks. The coffee tasted of dish water. The staff were quite friendly.
