Kennford Playbox is an early years preschool for 2-4 year olds, in a modern, purpose built building just outside Exeter. A registered charity overseen by a volunteer parent led committee, Playbox has a dedicated team to help your child thrive by learning and developing through play.

Recently rated 'OUTSTANDING' by Ofsted, staff support children in their learning journey through wide ranging activities including role-play, nature trails, block building soft play and arts and crafts. There is free flow access across both the indoor and outdoor curriculum activities. We are able to accept 2Gether funding and Early Years Entitlement funded by Devon County Council.
Services
The Kennford Playbox is a rural pre-school entirely run by its parents for the benefit of the children attending. We are a registered charity. Unlike other early years settings, we are entirely run on a "not for profit" basis. This allows us to use all our income to benefit the children attending. We cater for 2-4 year old children in a purpose-built pre-school.
It is now a statutory obligation (laid out in law) that Early Years Settings follow the good practices that are laid out within the EYFS, which affects everything that we do, day-to-day, within settings that children aged from birth to five attend. The legal welfare requirements that everyone registered to look after children must follow to keep your child safe and promote their welfare.
Each one of these different actions aids fine motor development in a different way, not to mention hand-eye co ordination and general concentration. Providing a wide range of additional resources to use while playing extends the investigation and creative play possibilities endlessly.

Providing small items like buttons, sequins, pasta, pebbles, shells and straws (and more) for children to select to use whilst playing with dough, will encourage pincer control (using forefinger and thumb to pick up small things.)As soon as you introduce open ended play items play dough becomes the perfect medium for numerous types of imaginative play.
The slide show below illustrates some of the areas in which Playbox covers the EYFS curriculum in it's day to day activities with the children. We encourage the children to build with blocks as often as possible. This is just one of our sets. These are mathematically engineered so that each shape will fit together when built as a design.
The Kennford Playbox is run by a preschool committee made up of the parents and carers of children at the preschool for the benefit of the children attending. The committee organise all the fundraising activities throughout the year which enable us to purchase new equipment, tools and activities for the children.

Report
Both my children have been through Kennford Playbox Pre-school and have had a fantastic time. My youngest has just gone up to Kenn School and was well equipt for the school learning experience, he along with many of his group already new a lot of their 'letters and sounds'.
The staff team are wonderful and the childcare is outstanding, as backed up by Ofsted a second time round!
The setting is purpose made with good parking and easy access from the A38, meaning that i was able to use it as i would a nursery facility.
I would definately recommend this pre-school to anyone looking for excellant
