Nestled in the centre of Bradninch, The Duchy Preschool is at the heart of our community. As a non-profit organisation, we're proud of the service we provide to local families and the fun, safe learning environment we offer our children. Parents can access our childcare in ways that fit in better with work. Early and late sessions are run by the same dedicated staff as the main daytime sessions so the "grown-ups" are familiar to your children and the learning opportunities are similar.
Services
Bradninch and District Playgroup was formed in 1972 by a local group of mothers who felt such a group would benefit their children. Initially two sessions a week were held at a weekly cost of 25p for the first child and 20p for all other children of the family. The Supervisor was paid 1 per session!
To enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age in a parent-involving, community based, inclusive group. To provide a safe, secure and stimulating play environment, where children are cared for and learn through well resourced and planned activities, whatever their race, culture, religion, means or ability.
The Duchy staff are very aware that the parents of a child are the first educators and the people who know the child best. All the staff are parents themselves and we feel this helps us to understand different perspectives when a family first comes to the playgroup. We strive to build respectful, understanding and inclusive relationships with parents and other family members from the very first visit.
For children not attending the early session, parents drop off the children at 9.15 am, when the work of learning through play begins. Activities are numerous; both adult led and child initiated, and include lots of messy play with materials such as water, clay, cornflour gloop, painting, sand and shaving foam.
Typically, we might offer cereal, (e.g Multigrain hoop, Shreddies, Weetabix) toast with a choice of savoury and sweet toppings, crumpets and milk or water. We offer a healthy snack each session including a carbohydrate and fruit or vegetables and a choice of milk or water. Typical examples might be breadsticks and hummus or rice cakes, toast with a choice of savoury and sweet toppings.
