Laurence Doddy and Victoria (Vicki) Foster are married with 2 children, a Border terrier and a cat. They bought Shipley and Idle Vets in 2003 (previously Beamsley Vets). They moved up from Bristol having both been working there since 1996. Laurence qualified from University College Dublin in 1993, Vicki from Bristol University in 1990.
Laurence went on to do an extra qualification in small animal internal medicine whilst working in Bristol. With this qualification he takes referrals of difficult medical cases from other vets in the region especially if the patient requires in depth ultrasound or endoscopic investigations. Vicki has a particular interest in dermatology and is very happy to see any particularly challenging skin or ear problems.

Services
Dentistry is commonly needed as cats and dogs get older. Prices start from 100.00, and include advice on preventative care to avoid unnecessary dentistry in the future. As with ultrasound, endoscopy helps us to diagnose issues without painful surgery.
Examples for endoscopy include retrieving objects from greedy dogs' stomachs, biopsy of bowel without the need for surgery, and we will soon be offering laparoscopic bitch spays - removal of the ovaries without the need for traditional surgery.Having our own full laboratory means quicker results for anxious owners, and for most tests reduces our reliance on the postal service.

The Shipley surgery is open slightly longer hours than Idle so always try calling the main number (01274 531010) first if Idle is closed. Outside of Shipley hours call the surgery and listen carefully to the message as you will be given a contact number to ring for advice and where to go if you need to be seen urgently.
Neutering a male cat or dog is known as castration and involves removal of the testicles. Neutering a female cat or dog is known as spaying and involves removing the uterus (womb) and the ovaries. Your pet only needs to stay with us for the day for these operations. It reduces the desire to roam and therefore reduces the likelihood of being injured in traffic accidents.
To help us get to know you and your pet better, please answer these questions before your appointment. Do you give any dietary supplements to your pet (for example: Vitamins, Glucosamine, Essential Fatty Acids, or any other supplements)?
If yes - please provide policy details including name of insurance provider, policy number, type of cover, mandatory excess and owner percentage contribution amount, claim limit, and details of any exclusions on your pet's policy. If this information is unknown, then please check your policy documents, or contact your pet's insurance provider to enquire.

Pet insurance provides cover for veterinary fees in the event that your pet becomes injured or unwell. It can provide peace of mind that you're in a position to afford all the veterinary care your pet may need. With veterinary medicine employing expensive medical techniques and medication, and with pet owners caring more and more about their pets' health, pet insurance is becoming increasingly popular.

All of my cats are with Shipley Vets, the compassion and love from the veterinary nurses and receptionist staff are amazing and nice to chat to. The main veterinary surgeons are amazing you can tell they love the animals and want the best for them.
A few months ago I had to say goodbye to one of my cats due to pancreatic cancer, all of the staff were very caring and helped me through the process, even during covid I was able to be there with him give him a cuddle and hold his paw whilst he went, they were then kind enough to send us a pawprint some of his fur and a card with their condolences

I take my cat here whenever she needs the vet and all the vets I've seen are honestly wonderful. I respect that the prices need to be what they are for the vets to be able to provide the best service they can.
Whichever vet practice you sign up with, go easy on the vets. They're not after your money. They really want the best for your pet, and unfortunately medicines and diagnostic equipment cost a lot. We just don't feel it when we get sick, thanks to the NHS.
Vets are heroes too! 🐈🐕🐇
