The Tolcarne Inn is a historic maritime pub, nestled next to the sea wall in Newlyn - one of the UK's most important fishing ports. Chef and restaurateur Ben Tunnicliffe has created an irresistible dining destination for seafood lovers, where a chalkboard menu evolves to reflect seasonal abundance. The catch of the day is served alongside fresh produce sourced from small local growers; Ben's ethos is to combine flavours simply and instinctively, letting the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves.
Services
Ben's chalkboard-style menu reads like an ode to the sea. Mackerel, cod, brill, bream, scallops, crab, mussels, bass, john dory - all of these and more feature according to seasonal abundance. Working closely with our local fishmongers ensures that the freshest fish is delivered to our door each day.
From Penzance take the first left after you enter Newlyn and pass Newlyn Art Gallery. The road leads past Tolcarne Garage and the entrance to the pub, beyond which you will find a Pay and Display car park. The Tolcarne Inn welcomes children, and can offer children's portions of most dishes, or simpler versions.

Did not expect to find a restaurant of this calibre in this location. Had one of the best meals I've had in quite some time. The monkfish starter with hummus and dookah was superb. Haven't checked but would expect this restaurant to appear in some of the good food guides. Will definitely go back next time we're in Cornwall

Had a lovely meal here. Pub is cozy, low ceilings, well maintained, understated. Staff great, service good. Food selection was ace. Loads of fish options. We had spiced Monkfish with humus and preserved lemon - kind of Moroccan vibe. For main we had Plaice with Cornish potatoes, shrimp and kale. Both lovely. Deserts looked great but was full up. Certainly would go back if in Penzance.
