Came Down Golf Club
Two of the world's greatest course designers, J H Taylor and Harry S Colt, brought their magic to the course, bringing it into the same stables as Royal Portrush, Royal Birkdale, Muirfield and Sunningdale. Taylor set up the initial 18 holes, then Colt introduced changes in 1926 using the natural features of the land.

Their insights have made a course that takes many rounds to truly understand. Really enjoyed the day. Lovely course, challenging but not overly so, stunning views and greens in wonderful condition. I put my name down for a game on the Open Day in 2019. It was really hoofing it down but a distinguished-looking gentleman said 'I'll take him out'.
Services
Founded in 1896 as the Dorchester Golf Club, our club's inception was part of the great golf boom of the 1890's where every town seemed to want its own golf course. Colonel Tweedie, the newly appointed Honorary Secretary stated "the committee will be pleased to receive the names of those desirous of becoming members."
Standing on the first tee you have a beautiful view of Dorchester. This view gives the hole its name 'Casterbridge' taken from Thomas Hardy's name for Dorchester. A generous opening hole that plays downhill, often with the prevailing wind at your back. Take care with your approach shot as you play downhill to a green that slopes away from you.
When a player's ball has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds, the player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance. For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area (see Rule 14.3).
Visitors are welcome at Came Down Golf Club throughout the week and can look forward to an excellent round, followed by some delicious catering. Special rates are available for guests of members as well as juniors. For those able to play later in the day, twilight rates offering generous discounts are available after 3.30pm in the summer and after 1.30pm in the winter.
Came Down Golf Club welcomes societies and corporate groups of 12 or more throughout the year. Our superb course will guarantee you a great day of golf. Good food and facilities await you upon your return to the clubhouse to ensure a memorable day whilst our staff and PGA Professional are on hand to assist you in any way they can.

Cracking 10 holes before lunch, stayed dry and only dropped a couple of shots so 18pts for 9 holes and played and parred the 10th on the way in, happy as Larry !

Beautiful course with stunning views. Tough but fair and testing greens. Wind and bomb craters are features of this demanding track.
The bar is well stocked including some descent lagers and the catering is reasonably priced.
I've played here several times and look forward to returning. All in all good value for money.

Some of the best views in Dorset, my walk this morning was spoiled by misbehaving golf balls !

We cycled past early one morning looking at the Iron Age barrows from the road. Lovely, peaceful spot. If I played golf, I would play there.

Amongst the most beautiful views anywhere in the world, very rare for weather to close the course. Hares and deer a common feature. CLUBHOUSE OPENING AGAIN NEXT WEEK

Lovely course with fantastic views.
The course was playing tougher due to the recent lack of rain, but I relished this challenge. A true test.

Pins changed once a week, bunkers raked everyday, greens mowed everyday. Can get windy on top of ridgeway with lovely views over Weymouth to the south and Dorchester and north Dorset to the north. Friendly and welcoming members and staff. Home of the Ryder cup, go and have a great game of golf

Great hospitality when they hosted the wake for my mother’s funeral. She was a member for may years and made all our family and friends very welcome.
