Girling & Bowditch Veterinary Surgeons
We are a family owned Veterinary Practice providing a friendly, caring, high quality Vet service to small animal pet owners in West Dorset and South Somerset. We have upgraded our phone system to further improve our customer service, please be aware that ALL calls are now recorded for quality and training purposes.

If your pet has lapsed their booster vaccinations due to the pandemic we will re-start them for the price of a booster, call us on 01308 862312 to make an appointment. Preventing problems with parasites is also going to be better for our pets than treating them when they arise. Ask us about parasite treatments or for more information about our Pet Health Plan.
Services
As you'd expect, we can offer a complete range of treatments to help keep your pet in great shape, or get them back on track if they've been unwell. We use a range of techniques to find out what has caused your pet to become unwell. Having our own laboratory ensure that samples can be analysed as quickly as possible, which is crucial when dealing with urgent cases.
Girling & Bowditch Pet Health plans provide you with a simple, money-saving way to give your cat or dog the regular preventative treatments he or she needs. Pet Health Plans are NOT pet insurance, but cover the regular things - like vaccinations, flea, worm and parasite treatments, health checks and advice - that pet insurance generally doesn't.
We can also check anal glands and provide advice on neutering, breeding, and parasite control including lungworm. If you'd like advice about whether your pet needs to see a vet or a nurse, our team will be happy to help. We're proud to be a Local Vets approved practice. It shows we're totally committed to staying independently owned and are here to serve our local community.
Each year 1 in 3 pets is injured or becomes ill* and needs urgent veterinary treatment. Insurance can help you cover the cost of these unexpected bills leaving you free to concentrate on helping an important member of your family recover. We never want money to be an issue should your pet require treatment but there is also no doubt that the provision of high quality veterinary care can be costly.
Although each of our surgeries has some of the most up to date facilities it is sometimes necessary to transfer patients to another of our facilities. To help make this easier for the patients as well as being less traumatic, we have invested in our own specially equipped ambulance. This ensures our patients remain comfortable whilst they are being transferred.

We moved to Dorset from London in January with our 3 Border Terriers and have had the best experience with the practice and exemplary care for our boys!! The staff are amazing and so knowledgeable from the vets to the veterinary Nurses and Reception staff. Nothing is too much.đź’—

Very very expensive, not happy with the service. My poor dog suffered alot of pain and G&B tried to delay me having her put to sleep. Waisted a lot of money on medication which she was not able to take days before she died. I feel the vets are on sales targets to sell services etc which are not always in the best interests of the animal only the profits of the practice.

Positive: Professionalism, Responsiveness, Value
Such caring people and so practical. It's a hard balance to maintain when emotions run high around pets, but they walk this fine line brilliantly. Recommended.

Just registered my animal here as another local vet consortium became a little bit like an assembly line! Very pleased with my first visit and the care and compassion shown to my pet. 5*

The very kind staff looked at a very sad looking baby polecat we rescued from the side of the road . They reassured us it was ok and advised us to release it back near where it was found . 🙂 Thanks guys.

Have always been very helpful, the staff are very friendly, and they get very attached to your best friend. Our previous dog had to be put down as they found he had a enormous growth and he was under sedation and he wouldn't know anything about it, he was a lovely boy. We waited for a while and went and bought our second Zeus, he is very loving and attached.

Another visit, great service, my Mickey’s ear infection solved in one visit and at a very fair price.
That’s two dogs, two visits and both dogs are now healthy.
Thank you.
I can’t recommend you enough.

A family owned, not corporate practice. Will discuss your pet's needs. There are very few independents left and they have put their money into technology. My pup's recovery from her lap spay was wonderful.
