South Moor Golf Club
Our Dr Alister MacKenzie designed course is a stunning county championship venue, oozing natural charm as it winds between gorse, heather and bracken around an enticing heathland layout. Each hole presents a different challenge and golfers who like putting on large and Augusta National style greens will enjoy negotiating their undulating surfaces.

This is the trademark of a genius whose portfolio also included Augusta, Cypress Point and Royal Melbourne. No wonder the name Dr. Alister MacKenzie - "The Good Doctor" is forever enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Services
Three stands of South Moor Golf Club's identity - its famous architect, its mining history and its beautiful setting - combine to make it a heritage asset which draws visitors to our area. It is a little known fact that a chance meeting during the horrors of World War One led to one of the true geniuses of the game leaving a lasting legacy on the course.
Wednesday nights will never be the same again as our junior coaching is back. Why don't you #TrySomethingNew between 18:00 and 19:00 every Wednesday at our specially tailored coaching sessions tailored for complete novice golfers as well as the experienced. At only 2 a head, your little ones are certain to enjoy themselves in the fun and highly charged coaching.
Welcome to the Ladies' Section of South Moor Golf Club. I would like to take the opportunity to welcome everyone back to our great sport, following the ups and downs of the past year. We are a small, but very friendly Section, providing both mid-week, mainly medals, and weekend competitions. As a new member into my second season, I have found the course to be an invigorating new challenge, one that any player who loves their golf would enjoy.
2019 Season: Congratulations to everyone involved in 2019, it has been an excellent year and we go again next season. We will come back next year fighting fit and stronger. Bitterly disappointing evening away in Newcastle this evening sees south moor's men comfortably beaten away from home this evening in the season finale.
Both of our NERGA teams have played their season openers, the inters securing a 6th place finish in their game @ Wearside GC and the Rabbits picked up from where they left off with another solid 3rd place finish in their opening match @ Bishop Auckland GC.

The Individual championship was made up of the top player from each of the 25 Inter clubs and the winner was Philip Bladen Roseberry Grange Community Golf Club with 37 points while David Parkinson Bishop Auckland Golf Club as runner up with 36 points. The top 2 teams from each zone played for the team championship, and the winners, for the 3rd year running, were Malton & Norton Golf Club, with South Moor Golf Club as runners up.

An absolutely shocking experience, somewhat boardering on dangerous. Even though we saw potential in the layout of the course the conditions were awful ,we skated from one hole to another and even managed to end up horizontal on the run up to the 19 th. Such a shame ,being only 10 minutes from home . Realistically the course was unplayable on the day.

We paid £15 each and feel like I should drop £40 in at the Pro shop (I won't though 😎). Varied layout, fast, tricky greens and picturesque views. Cheap at twice the price. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area.

If I didn't live 37 miles away I would almost certainly take up membership at this fantastic club. The course is a true test of golfing ability, interestingly laid out, immaculately kept and a joy to play. Give it a try, I promise that you'll not be disappointed 👍

We are a family visiting from Reading, staying in the area, and loved the course. Very clever design makes every tee shot seem difficult, but the hole often opens up for the second shot.
Good length to par 3s, greens are true and the course has some spectacular holes. Highly recommend.

A bit of a hidden gem in the North East and host to many County/National events.
Not too long at just over 6,000 yards but very challenging. Even so, higher handicaps will find it fair. Excellent greens and fabulous views.
Pretty hilly and definitely not for the unfit!
Well above average practice areas - there are three of them - and a first class pro shop.
A very pleasant clubhouse ensures a good start and/or end to your game.
Definitely worth a visit.
