Anger, stress, lack of confidence, stammering, stuttering, shyness, sexual abuse, childhood trauma, bullying, PTSD and many more.
The word Hypnosis comes from the Greek 'Hypnos' (to sleep) but far from being asleep, the person in hypnosis may well be in a heightened state of awareness, with improved memory, in which they still have complete control of their own mind. They are however, more open to therapy and suggestions that may be given by the hypnotherapist.
Unknown to most people, we are all suffering from the stresses and traumas of our early life. That is up to the age of about 16 years. The frustrations, fears, guilt, shame, grief etc that everyone endures as a part of growing up, are very often not expressed at the time. We live with them and it is a human trait not to express our feelings; to bottle them up and deny them, because we are too frightened, embarrassed or insecure.
Common phobias that trouble many people are; fear of flying, being sick, public speaking, public toilets, social phobia, death, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, heights and spiders. It is possible to have a phobia of anything at all. Not all fears are phobias. Being scared of something like falling isn't a phobia because there is a real danger and a need for survival in the individual.
In many people there is the need to feel good when things aren't going well or when our stress level is high. This comfort eating is well known to many who will either nibble or may indulge in a big meal to fill the need for something good. Emotional Release Therapy is used to help remove the anxiety and blocked emotion which causes comfort eating, dealing with any unconscious links to over-eating and eating comfort foods.
